I have advocated for the last five years that my family donate gifts to charities rather than exchanging gifts. They all call me crazy, so I don't buy gifts. It doesn't have the effect I want because my wife compensates and buys people shit. The only leverage I have gained is that she can't get mad at me when I'm still hammered on Christmas morning.

Christmas is cool. People are not. I went to target with umnette tonight like we do nearly every week. We usually hit up the toy isles and she checks stuff out as part of the trip. As for me, I love Christmas. Give me all of it. More lights, more cookies, more parties, more eggnog, more presents, more family, more everything. It really is the most wonderful time of the year for me. My wife does an awesome job setting up our house when she puts up the tree, the Christmas Village, lights all over, and we use the fireplace more during December than any other month. If we have kids, it's even going to make the season that much better. I love it. Maybe that makes me a dork, but ill own that and be a dork with a Santa hat on.

Sounds like some of the people in this thread are confusing Christmas with Festivus. The bad part of Christmas I think is probably mostly for people who dislike their family members who they see on the holidays.

There are a lot of holidays throughout the year, but there is any of them that have generated the vast amount of music that Christmas has. There is also an endless supply of movies, Christmas food, parades and holiday parties.

Obviously there is a certain amount of pressure that comes with the holiday season, but it's actually the only hope for humanity--God wrapped up in human form. If you don't lose sight of what the reason for the season is then you'll understand that there is reason to have hope on Christmas and every day of the year.
