Same here...my favorite memories of Terry will be with the HFC, especially during transitions with North and Jiggetts, or with Les doing updates from Wrigley/Comiskey.

I'm not gonna criticize someone for not shedding tears for Boers. As has been pointed out here, Boers has been one of the biggest assholes in Chicago media for decades now.

There's not shedding tears and then there's proudly being in full agreement with SiD. One's absolutely fine, the other is a pretty clear-cut case of being a prize-winning asswipe about it, not to mention, at least in this particular case, rather predictably so on top of it.

The only thing I found disappointing is that he didn't admit/explain that his contract was up on 1/5.

His comment about making it to January implies that there's a substantial chance he might not.

Having lost a parent to cancer earlier this year, I feel badly for Terry if he has been diagnosed with something aggressive.

I know. But it's just a personal thing. You relate it to your family. So even though Terry rooted and celebrated death for others, you still feel bad for him. At least I do.

Sitting next two Bernstein for 15+ years make him seem nicer, but he's definitely said a bunch of dickish shit over just the last 10 years or so I've listened to him. I'd still rather him not retire because all the replacement options are worse.

I've never thought Terry was an asshole but even if I did today wouldn't be the day I shared those feelings. It's like showing up at a funeral and talking shit about a guy. Being a decent human being shouldn't be too much to ask for. Toddlers use the behavior of others to justify their own.

My puzzlement isn't not liking Terry, it's how hard you go in on this, as though Terry paid someone to molest your wife or made you late to work or something personal like that.

Boers is one reason the Score was able to overcome the lean years. One hell of a sportswriter as well. Never missed an article when he wrote for the Sun Times while I was in high school. Worked in library and had paper put away for me until I read it. He will be missed badly.

Maybe I heard Dan be an asshole so much that I missed his moments. Maybe I see an aging guy at the end of his career and likely near the end of his life and I choose to remember the positives. I hope when I get near the end MANY are kind enough to do the same.
