Julie wouldn't last long with Dan. A female caller was on a week or two ago, talking about how Rizzo twerking on top of an old woman's grave on SNL (no idea, didn't watch) and ended up saying it was sexual harassment. Dan cursed her off the air and asked at the top of his voice, "doesn't anyone have a sense of humor anymore?!!".

I'm going to say it wouldn't work out too well with 'ol Julie. As I've noted, they rarely have her do updates with B&B. I think there's a very good reason for that.

The nighttime shift would be good for Drinky, that way he and his ex can save on daycare with the divorce and all

I think if drinky was going to get a permanent spot it would've happened by now. It's not like he's improving either.

On second thought, maybe Dan and Julie would be a good listen.

bernstein and goff would be the ideal show out of all of the choices, but would they do that to speagol? obviously if you say "i won't want any part of a julie di caro radio show" (what little i heard of the day after thanksgiving marathon shift was just kinda *shrug* except for the technicality that i didnt know julie is a cutler gal) it's set up[ that you're some kind of caveman who "fears" a woman in a hosting gig (in much the same way "homophobia" covers for "not liking gay people" with that connotation of fear) except that i dont have any problem with women (just like the rapper on atlanta =) it's just THAT woman, you know?

honestly i think that it's gonna end up being bernstein and rozner. they seemed to be the default show during that hiatus, and since rozner is a cubs guy and a hockey guy it's almost a fait accompli that they do that route with the cubs and hawks being the two good teams in town...

...but put me down for bernstein and goff being the best, even tho i listen to more gough (darren gough with adrian durham on talkSPORT) than goff during the ~10am-1pm hours =D

I think it makes logical sense to bring Mac back in January, have Goff and his expiring contract move to afternoons and have it be a three man booth with Matty. They can't flip Dan off drive time, he's cemented there.

Dear God not Goff...he is insufferable to listen too...always sounds like he has marbles in his mouth.

Lawrence would be somewhat OK, but I think he's better on his own.

Nick's waters run quite a bit deeper than Drinky's, and they still don't run all that deep.

Like I said, drinky is the dark horse for Terry's gig. He has to beg for it. I'm not kidding. Be in Mitch's ear every day. What the hell? Why not if your drinky at this point. The hell with pride.

I don't think he'll get it, though. This will be yet another blow to drinky. Passed over 4 or 5 times before this. But this would sting more. That he can't get the show that he's produced for over a decade.

There would be one more shot for drinky the way I see it.

That's if Goff is doing this for 5 or 6 years with some success. Then he'll have a little bit of power at that point. He could get in Mitch's ear. Convince Mitch that he's the true star. He could convince Mitch to launch Spiegel, whom Goff hates anyway, and hire his old buddy Drinky!!!!! Then those two crazy kids can be reunited and be "B&B II" like they thought they would be when they first were paired together for nights and weekends.

But that's years away from happening. Goff has to improve his status before he gets some pull.

The only way Drinky gets it is if there was some sort of prior agreement. As in, he knew or was told explicitly that is the way it would be. So he does his time as a executive producer (paid higher than most) until this day comes. Now the time comes and here we are. Maybe that is why Goff bailed to Atlanta knowing it was Drinky in the way.

Why the fuck else does Drinky do this job for a living for so long without moving on?

Why the hell would the SCORE be in a position to promise drinky anything? Why? Cuz he's the best damn guy to answer the phone? No. They can get some other snot nose kid to do that. Somebody would do it for cheaper than drinky.

The reason drinky does it is cuz at this point of his life, he's not gonna be something else.

Plus I'll bet he does OK. Better than the other producers. Cuz they give him so many endorsements. No other producer gets what he gets. So that probably adds an extra 10-15k to his salary. So he's probably 60-65k a year I would guess. That ain't bad for answering phones and a 5 hour work day. Bernstein really doesn't ask much of him. In fact, drinky once said sometimes he goes weeks without talking to Bernstein. So how hard can the job be when the boss doesn't even need to talk to you?

Mitch told Feder that "The search has begun".

That kind of sounds like a slap in the face to the bench guys. That he's searching outside the family.

Then again, maybe Mitch knows who it's gonna be and has to say that. Cuz I think, by law, they have to post this job opening. I'm certain some lower market guys will apply for it. Everybody wants to get to Chicago. Maybe somebody will blow Mitch away in an interview. Ya know, like Dan Hampton did.

I don't think you can move Goff away from Spiegel without turning him into the Jay Cutler of Chicago sports-talk--that'd be, what, 3 co-hosts (not counting fill-ins) in 2 calendar years, and a new partner would make it 4 in 3?

And nevermind Spiegel's pride, I can't imagine so frequently tinkering with the hosts in a lineup doesn't fracture a listener base. Since 2014 people in Chicago have had to decide whether they like "McNeil & Spiegel", "Spiegel & Mannelly", then "Spiegel & Goff", and in January, if Goff moves to afternoon drive with Bernstein, "Spiegel & [New Host]"? To quote Bernstein: "But think of the brand."

I can't recall specifics nor how many books they had, but I am of a recollection that the ratings for Spiegel's show tanked after McNeil left and people found out Mannelly had the personality of a dead fish, and "Spiegel & Goff" had to fight a bit to make a comeback in ratings.

Unless the FCC has gotten oddly specific in how they police stations, I don't think that's true. The only other thing I could see compelling Mitch to post a job listing is EEOC compliance.

Regardless, I think Mitch should promote from within to Terry's spot, then conduct a bona fide "talent search' to fill any openings created by lineup shifting or people quitting in disgust (because The People need to hear the sports musings of Jay Zawaski or Nick Shepkowski ).

The SCORE is always gonna need guys like Shepkowski and Zawaski to fill nights and weekends on the cheap. That's what drinky and Goff were for a while.

Just realized it might not be Jason because Dan may insist on his partner having a college degree. Anything less in afternoon drive would be bad optics. This isn't Mike North's Score.

I mean, Terry went to NIU. Jason has at least a couple semesters at SIU, right?

(sigh) The fact is that through not only Terry and I but our listeners, we've been able to (sigh)...curate a community that's not just weeeird and odd and strange, but educated and attractive to advertisers. Except Quad Cities Pat, he's not attractive to anyone! But what we've cultivated here thanks to Schmutzie, and Rudy, and Unemployed Lawyer, is a listenership that demands (sigh) a certain honed sensibility, and that means a lot to Mitch, and to sponsors, and to One Step, and, really, it means a lot to me. The late David Foster Wallace, whom I knew, in his famous commencement speech to KDdidit College, said that a liberal-arts education is about teaching you how to think. And if you're going to do this job and do it well, you need to know how to think. And like David Foster Wallace also said, to whoever gets this job, I wish you way more than luck.

Dan can pick up Goff and Drinky as his co-hosts and call it something that doesn't involve their actual names. Shitcan Grimace.....finally...... and get the GLORIOUS KAPMAN for his own mid-day show. I think Kap is one of the few people who publically didn't put up with jules' shit and either no sold her or flat out shut her down on something.

In all seriousness, I haven't wavered from my prediction that it's gonna be Jason as co-host and Julie as update anchor/chime-inner. KAPMAN would make sense for the Cubs station, but I don't know when/if he can get out of 1000. I can't shake the feeling that they're just riding out Spiegel's contract and he'll be gone as soon as possible. Mac's not coming back.

The more I think about this, the more I think that Dan plus a rotating cast (dare I say a zoo?) of sidekicks, none of who get name billing, is how this could easily go.

LoHo - this generation's Jim Rose, without the hot ex-wife. Runs the ship when Dan is away.
Rongey - the goof-ass (with Matty moving to a post-Cubs 9:30p-1a shift)
Julie - unintentionally comic SJW to pretend to pick up women listeners
Z-Pack - takes over as the producer and somehow the voice of reason

The wild cards to me are:
1. Is Jason going to overplay his hand financially and get launched because CBS is looking for a reason to get rid of him with no Terry in the house?
2. McDoink. What the hell is WLS doing? Was Mitch upset or relieved that he went to WGN-lite? I could see McDoink getting brought back to host 6:30-10p and the occasional weekend afternoon.
