i love christmas. but its mostly nostalgic. we had great christmas's as a child. even though my parents had next to nothing, they made them great. i know a lot of people who had terrible xmas's growing up. and i can understand why they don't like them now.

i love the glow of christmas lights, the food, spending time with family, etc etc.

basically i'm lame.

What made Christmas so special for you as a child?

Christmas was always awful for me growing up, but I'd like to make it great for my kids.

The day for presents were great but it's all the other things about Christmas where you spent time with your parents and brothers (or sisters if you had them).

Going into the crawlspace to get the decorations and tree because your parents wanted nothing to do with crawling around.

Going to the tree farm to find a real tree to cut down (maybe skip the chainsaw and use a handsaw)

We eventually switched to a fake tree which allowed our family to decorate the tree pretty extravagantly. The mixture of silly child ornaments and expensive ones my mother enjoyed collecting.

The building of a Christmas village under the tree.

Baking chocolate chip cookies for Santa. Once we grew older it was still fun to bake the cookies for the holidays.

Going to "downtown" Arlington Hts and playing at their park with Christmas decorations. Sitting on a old stranger's lap in a Santa costume.

Receiving those German chocolate calendars where you open one door for each day of December to reveal a chocolate.

Just simple things like above where you spend time with your loved ones. MANY of the above are mundane but I remember them moreso than 90% of the gifts I received as a child.

Afew years ago I got pissed when I found out that my favorite ones from childhood had been taken down to Atlanta by my sister & my nieces. I loved the memories and feelings I got seeing those each year. One was even made of styrofoam and cardboard paper

USA and NBC 7p CST. NBC also airing it on Christmas Eve, per their tradition.

More importantly, "A Charlie Brown Christmas" airs tonight on ABC at 7:00p.

This is one of my favorite movies. I have it on DVD.

People think it's sappy, and it is some parts, but it's also a very funny movie.

I cannot be sure about it but I believe a distant in law was hitting on me. She looks remarkably like the mom in "so I married an axe murderer" and was acting like her as well. She even has an accent kind of like the woman. She hugged me very tightly to her for an uncomfortably long time when we first greeted. Then she told me that I keep getting more handsome every year and started touching the greying hair along my temples.

I did not close the deal

This was an in law and not one of the close ones so it's all good from that part of the equation

I had a great uncle who became senile and started asking women inappropriate questions at parties. It really wasn't an issue because he died

I won't vouch for this woman's age, looks or mental awareness but she undoubtedly has good taste

Another great Christmastime for all involved! What a magical time of the year. I'm already excited about next November and December!

This Christmas was pretty ok as a whole.

Christmas with my wife and kids was great. Christmas Eve with my Irish family was great. Unfortunately, my father in law wound up in the hospital Christmas Eve, so we did not go back to Michigan for Christmas Day with the in-laws. Now planning a New Years trip over there.

This led to a trip to my Aunt's house Christmas Day for dinner with the whack-job half of my family. Before we even got there, my dad and step-mom showed up drunk as shit because they were at her sister's wedding that morning and for brunch. This led to my dad basically telling my grandma and aunt off in front of the rest of the family, then sitting on the front porch smoking and drinking water while trying to sober up enough to get his car keys back from my cousin that took them from him after I told him he was too drunk to drive. He also intermittently walked by his drunken idiot wife and they sniped at each other. The night got much better about 3 hours later when we let him have his keys and they left.

Yay Christmas
