It's clear you feel that you are doing what is best for your kids by sending them to Catholic school. Why can I not have the opinion that sending a kid to Catholic school is not what is best for them?

I won't be sending my kid to Catholic school. Do you feel that I am putting him at a disadvantage to your kids?

No I do not. Your children are yours and you can raise them how you see fit. I would never judge your parental choices short of that involving criminal abuse. Only an asshole would do that.

So you think there is no benefit to sending your kid to public school vs. sending them to private school. Is that correct?

I believe it is the right choice for MY children in MY family in MY situation. I would further assert that I am probably the one in the best position to judge what is best for MY children.

I think the overall experience at a Catholic school is much better than the overall experience at a public school.

Answer the question or stop being so sensitive.

I shared my opinion. I understand others may have different opinions. I went as far to make sure it was known that it was my opinion. You called me a bigot for having the opinion that public school is better than Catholic school even though it is clear that you feel the opposite of me.

My opinion is that you ARE a bigot and stop putting words in my mouth. I believe a Catholic education would be a disservice for your children!

I'm not putting words in your mouth. You cited the mostly debunked statistics on The Catholic School effect for a reason. The reason was that you were making a case that sending your kid to Catholic school gives them a better chance at success in life.

If I'm judging you for thinking what I think then you are certainly judging me. You know this which is why you won't answer the simple question of "Is sending your kid to Catholic school better for them than sending them to public school?" even though through your actions the answer is clearly that you believe it is.

I won't be offended if you think that Catholic school is a better choice. Just go ahead and say it.

Look, you started the argument with your assertion that I was doing a disservice to my children. I took umbrage and pointed out that there is no evidence for that statement. What evidence there is suggests catholic students actually do better for whatever reason.

I answered every question clearly already. Your children would do better in a public school given your bigoted attitudes toward catholics.

This argument is awful. I think everyone basically agrees and thinks that parents can do whatever they think is best for their kids. Shake hands and kiss.

I would like to know this as well. More than anything, I almost thing an education at any private religious institution, prior to college, would actually be more sheltered and repressive.

Disagree with me if you want. Just actually do it. It's fair for me to have an opinion on the value of public vs. Catholic school and for it to be that public school is better. It doesn't make me a bigot to believe that. There are plenty that probably think I am doing my kid a disservice not raising them with much religion. I'm ok with that and I'm certainly not going to whine and cry like you are in this thread about it. Toughen up.

I'm not whining nor crying. Just pointing out your bigotry like anyone else would when someone made baseless claims about their race/religion/sexual preference, whatever.

The problem is with Hatchetman's use of calling me a bigot for my opinion.

I understand that my opinion is not law(yet) and is not infallible. It is still my opinion and it doesn't make me a bigot.

There are people I'm sure judging me in this thread after reading that I'd rather go to Costco over church on Sunday mornings. I'm not going to cry about it though.

I didn't say anything negative about Catholicism in this thread. I am in fact, at least kind of, a Catholic myself.

You're obviously sensitive about the subject and lashing out with the laughable claim that it makes me a bigot to think that not having a class a day that centers around The Bible is better than having a class a day that does.

I'll give my reasoning as my wife and I spent a lot of time when our kids were young in finding the right school. Here are some of the things that we feel are better about the Lutheran Elementary School and now the Christian (non-denominational) High School that our kids attend. These are relative to District 300. :

-Class sizes were between 25-50% smaller depending on the year. D300 tended to have class sizes above 30. Our children generally attend class with 15-25 kids in a class.
-The private schools make the children and parents sign a code of conduct. In addition, it is strictly enforced.
-Almost without exception, the parents are engaged in their child's learning. The teachers aren't burdened with kids who get no parent support.
-The students are held to a high academic standard with no social promotion.
-They use more traditional teaching techniques like phonics and times tables vs whole word learning and silly ways to multiply numbers.
-The teachers have a deeper involvement and level of caring because the parents, students, and teachers all attend the same church and do many social activities outside the classroom. For instance, every teacher in elementary school would meet with us at our house before the school year began to learn and meet the entire family.
-There is very little bureaucracy or administration. Instead of a school with a thousand kids, you are dealing with 100 (200 for the entire high school). You know the Principal, and he/she knows you and your kids.
-The reviews from parents and kids that had attended those schools were a strong validating factor of the quality of education. Looking back, my children received and are still still receiving a very high quality education. Their standardized test scores show that. I see a vast different between my kids and their cousins. The impact is cumulative.
-The high school has a 100% placement rate into college.

Given that the study of relative academic achievement of Catholic schools is well-worn academic territory and you have no creditable evidence on your side of the argument, I am left with no other alternative.

Note again with the intentionally obtuse assertion of what religious study actually is despite the fact that MANY in this very thread have explained what it actually is.

I posted three links and you replied to them so fast it is unlikely you even clicked on all of them.

However, and I'll ask this again given you saying this once again: Is a Catholic school education better than a public school one? YES OR NO?

How many times do you want me to answer this?? For each family and situation the answer is different. My daughter is approaching high school. Will she go to public or catholic? I'm not sure yet.

I have already read those studies previously.
