Julie's honorable mention was the kind of quote that would have been a candidate for years: short, to the point, a scoreboard update anchor flubbing a line. (And I mean short: some of these candidates were so meandering that I couldn't tell when, if ever, we'd get to the joke.) I'm guessing the producers (and Baldy, doesn't he contribute?) used their better judgment and realized allowing people to vote "for" Julie DiCaro would have caused a world-class shitshow.

i didnt hear the honorable mentions but of the actual candidates only 2 or 3 made me laugh.

There was no comedic timing to any of them. The best one was Zimmer saying "you just have to remember the sun comes--look, my wife is dead" but even that one ran too long to be funny.

John Lackey, for "I didn't come here for a haircut" and some other rambling they failed to trim. It hardly stands up to the greats, that's for sure.

That's the winner? Of all the dumb shit that people have said this year? That's bad. Blame the voters, I guess. But it shouldn't have even been nominated. I didn't hear the other nominations. Something had to be better.

That didn't even win its year! Remember, as it concerned the death of Red Kerr, it lost to "the person who I was honoring was the mother of my best man at my funeral," which itself was one of three lines from that call alone that could have won: that one, "you don't come boppin' in the door so they can see YOUR five-thousand-dollar suit!", and "ARE YOU JEWISH?"

God, Boers and Bernstein from 2006-2011 was all-time great radio, I miss it so much.

Goff had a good one this year. B&B played it a lot after it happened.

He was saying a Bulls player was a Bum. He wanted to emphasize this point to the listeners. So he proceeded to spell it by saying "B...U...N"

That was more stupid than Lackey's.

That was another honorable mention, and a good one. Jason was temporarily possessed by the spirit of Les Grobstein. Happens to us all.

Honestly that is the best call in the history of the show. I listen to it once a year or so on the youtube. Then the five minutes of wise-ass Jewish comments afterwards are hilarious.

Hawk's classic "count is even, sacks packed with seamen" quote is still a favorite of mine.

That was a good one. But one that really sucked was when Rongey won for the "penis on an airplane" one because not only did it deprive an all-timer in "our motto is WIN: Whatever Is Necessary Today," they had to make up for it by giving Beckman the win the year after with the OSKEE one that was much less funny, and AGAIN, went on fucking forever without a joke.

"We ain't no white trash" was good because, again, it's so succinct: the "ain't no" and mumble/drawl undermine his own assertion. "Maybe Mike North knows" isn't a moment of brilliance, it's just funny because no B&B listener expects Mike North to know anything.
