Julie's honorable mention was the kind of quote that would have been a candidate for years: short, to the point, a scoreboard update anchor flubbing a line. (And I mean short: some of these candidates were so meandering that I couldn't tell when, if ever, we'd get to the joke.) I'm guessing the producers (and Baldy, doesn't he contribute?) used their better judgment and realized allowing people to vote "for" Julie DiCaro would have caused a world-class shitshow.

How did "Theo Epstein - 83" not even make it? Weak ass quote of the year

There was no comedic timing to any of them. The best one was Zimmer saying "you just have to remember the sun comes--look, my wife is dead" but even that one ran too long to be funny.

John Lackey, for "I didn't come here for a haircut" and some other rambling they failed to trim. It hardly stands up to the greats, that's for sure.

"You know who Szczerbiak reminds me of? I forgot" is a sleeper pick for second-best QOTY (the first is not in doubt).

offhand QOTY power ranking

1. Skip Perry, Skip Caray, whose pappy was the legendary Harry, and whose son is Skip, died in his sleep last night. Make that his son Chip.
2. You know who Szczerbiak reminds me of? (No, who?) I forgot.
3. And then, a corn fell on his head.
4. It's not my show, but I'm on that show.
5. ROGER CLEMENS IS IN GEORGE'S BOX
6-14. i dunno
15. I didn't come here for a haircut.

And the entire family of Johhny Red Kerr who will be buried this weekend

Doesn't make the cut...?

come on the trestman quote is better than all but #1 on your list

“I haven’t heard any of that. I didn’t hear all of it. I heard a lot about most of it, but what I did hear, I did not hear any of that.”

"I didn't come here for a haricut"

That's the winner? Of all the dumb shit that people have said this year? That's bad. Blame the voters, I guess. But it shouldn't have even been nominated. I didn't hear the other nominations. Something had to be better.

That didn't even win its year! Remember, as it concerned the death of Red Kerr, it lost to "the person who I was honoring was the mother of my best man at my funeral," which itself was one of three lines from that call alone that could have won: that one, "you don't come boppin' in the door so they can see YOUR five-thousand-dollar suit!", and "ARE YOU JEWISH?"

God, Boers and Bernstein from 2006-2011 was all-time great radio, I miss it so much.

Ah, you're right, slot it above Suzyn Waldman but below Uncle Dick. Two metaphysical explorations by pseudo-intellectual football coaches, wow.

Goff had a good one this year. B&B played it a lot after it happened.

He was saying a Bulls player was a Bum. He wanted to emphasize this point to the listeners. So he proceeded to spell it by saying "B...U...N"

That was more stupid than Lackey's.

That was another honorable mention, and a good one. Jason was temporarily possessed by the spirit of Les Grobstein. Happens to us all.

Honestly that is the best call in the history of the show. I listen to it once a year or so on the youtube. Then the five minutes of wise-ass Jewish comments afterwards are hilarious.

I'm assuming it was too long for a QotY contest (or maybe B&B didn't want to acknowledge it since M&H played it so much) but the Grobber explaining the three technique is also one of my favorite clips in recent memory.

It was the lamest QOTY show I can remember. Is anything funny about the Ditka quote?

Nope. Tannehill is good at Doing Sound but his comedic sensibilities appear to be lacking.

That was a good one. But one that really sucked was when Rongey won for the "penis on an airplane" one because not only did it deprive an all-timer in "our motto is WIN: Whatever Is Necessary Today," they had to make up for it by giving Beckman the win the year after with the OSKEE one that was much less funny, and AGAIN, went on fucking forever without a joke.

Runaway #1 and #2 are George Ofman and Marc Trestman. Absolutely bewildering, like you can't imagine how their brains work to come up with those specific phrasings.

The worst was Mel Gibson. It was a long rant, not a quote.

"We ain't no white trash" was good because, again, it's so succinct: the "ain't no" and mumble/drawl undermine his own assertion. "Maybe Mike North knows" isn't a moment of brilliance, it's just funny because no B&B listener expects Mike North to know anything.

Trestmans best quote was his news conference on his day 1 with " were going to be selfish and undisciplined " what an idiot.
