so i've had FS1 on in the background for hours following the earlier buyern munich game, and after a 2hr documentary on the 2016 WS they've started up a new 1hr documentary called CONFESSIONS OF A CUBS FAN and while i'm doing my thing i hear a familiar voice and go "no way" and managed to snap a picture to prove what i saw (albeit without his text-title)

Image

of course, sox fan dan was talking about how the ricketteses said they had a plan to win, that winning the world series was unmistakenly the goal, and getting theo epstein in = nobody lied at any point because THEY. DID. EXACTLY. WHAT. THEY. TOLD. YOU. THEY. WERE. GOING. TO. DO. (e.g. REALLY. SMART. PEOPLE. and etc)

and i just can't stop cracking up because 1) this is literally a documentary called CONFESSIONS OF A CUBS FAN!!!! and 2) just look at him man.... when did he get this old this quick? it looks like something was eating away at his soul.... a contract with bee-el-zee-bub? cant spell it and i gotta go brb

AND BTW, this doc is still airing on fox sports 1 for another 15mins (til 9pm) if anyone wants to jump in and see how the 2016 season turned out. vince vaughn narration ftw!

MANY times I can correctly guess who started a thread simply based on the title. I was wrong this time.

welp good for you dude! i just figured seeing beerstain on a documentary called CONFESSIONS OF A CUBS FAN, especially looking like that, was worth some notice/mention because.... seriously, does he even try to pretend he's a sox fan anymore?

Is that an unaltered photo? For being a supposedly clean living guy, he looks like absolute shit for his age.

yeah dude, i just whipped out my phone and took a picture of the TV as quickly as i could. i manually scaled it down from stupid-hi-res so it could fit in the form of a message here.

and yeah, i was thinking the same thing too.... maybe that's why he was so "understanding" with terry? =/

Yeah. It's actually shocking. Claims to work out every day. Says he has a salad for lunch every day. It's not like he has a lot of stress in his life either. It's not Photoshoped. I caught this episode after a MLB playoff game.

It was funny. Dan was talking so authoritative as he lectured people on the Cubs and their history. It was weird that they chose a Sox fan to be the voice of Cubs fans. It should have been Mike Murphy. FOX didn't vet it. And Dan never told them. He just wanted to be the voice of Cubs fans on TV.

He's never been a Sox fan. Why he claimed he was I have no idea. He's out of the closet now.

I can't figure out why he's trying to cover up his Sox fandom now. He's clearly a South-Sider.

No, he was a Sox fan in his youth. I don't doubt that. Why would he lie? But he's a Cubs fan now. Which is fine. Doesn't matter to me.

lol dude are you reading my tweets or something?!

sinicalypse ‏@homoputzoafus 4m4 minutes ago

I have to admit that it feels pretty damn =] to see @dan_bernstein on a documentary called "Confessions of a #Cubs Fan" #OutOfTheCloset Dan?

....and of course plz don't mind the part where my next 2-3 tweets are basically me bending over backwards to ensure that it's 100.0-% clear to dan that i'm not disparaging gay people or making any BERNSTEIN IS GAY jokes, cuz you know, i like to think that even tho i'm me and i have the occasional sardonic =P to toss at him that i'm still "one of the good ones" as far as whatever you wanna call [the antithesis of Don Tiny's "Good Upstanding People" =]

I can't tell you why these guys lie. Maybe because the Cubs were so bad. Mac, North, and bernstein are all Cub fans. If you actually listen to them it's obvious.

i think there's something to be said for "counterculture cred" with being a sox fan compared to a cubs fan. especially if you're from [relatively] north [of] chicago/land, being a cubs fan is the easiest thing to do because odds are there's untold gaggles upon gaggles of cubs fans surrounding you at all times. with the cubs historically being so shit you figure that some people probably figured it'd make them look that much more "smarter" or "baseball" to claim that they're REALLY a fan of the scrappy underdog.... you know, that even tho the general sentiments surrounding them are all pro-cub, dadgummit, a REALLY. SMART. PERSON. like bernstein had to intrinsically seek out a better [baseball] product than the status quo, so he owned/wore/brandished that white sox fandom in much the same way some dipshit kids in the 1990s got a kick out of apeing kurt cobain's saying and sticking "Vandalism: As Beautiful as a Rock in a Cop's Face" stickers all over the payphone at their local 7-11--- you know, transcending the status quo! bucking the system! rooting for "the other team" !!!

my [baseball] uncle is a true blue cubs fan and when you ask him about the white sox he says he doesn't actively hate them or wish horrible fates upon them, but they're just not "[his] team." from there you can tell by the wincing-type-face that he's making when he's straining himself to try and be as politically correct as possible with his White Sox opinion/s that he's 100% genuine; that the white sox just aren't "his cup of motherfucker" -- no more, no less. that's how a legit fan of a team reacts to a question about "the other guys in town" -- i suspect with bernstein it was always something more symbolic/political/[something]-by-association than that (one way or another) because you know, he's likely always been on a quest to be seen as a REALLY. SMART. PERSON. by someone (even if he'll only admit "his boss/es" as his target demo cuz DUH everyone wants money)

huh? do you mean to ask why JORR claims that bernstein has NEVER been a sox fan? or do you mean to ask why JORR keeps on thinking that dan EVER claimed he was a sox fan [when he clearly wasn't/isn't] ???

alls i know is that bad white sox baseball killed his dog some years back, and as long as i listened dan was always a self-avowed sox fan.... but now that the cubs are loaded with REALLY. SMART. PEOPLE. and TELLING. YOU. WHAT. THEY'RE. GONNA. DO. and actually doing it and all that, even outside of dan being a great company man who's employed by a company who happens to have the cubs radio rights, man, it sure as hell seems like dan's been waiting an awfully long time to "come out of the closet" (if you will) and go 100% "cubs meatball" [or whatever he'd wanna call it akin to his other supposed status as a "bears meatball" =]

...and to ME, at least, that's pretty fucking amusing!

That's wrong though. I didn't vote for Trump, would never vote for Trump, and I've been critical of Trump. I hope Trump doesn't fuck shit up too bad. I don't think some whiny "resistance" against the president is going to help the country.

bernstein would say he's a Sox fan and then go on to use thousands of words to explain why the Cubs are better. Now he still has the thousands of words for the Cubs but he doesn't bother to say he's a Sox fan anymore. Even his "favorite" player Ivan Calderon is just a device designed to ridicule the Sox when juxtaposed against Cub greats like Williams, Banks, and Sandberg.

a month or go or so he literally said on air the cubs-cbs corporate partnership was a big reason he is a fan of the team... i was not surprised this drove his enthusiasm but was surprised he would actually say it on air

Excellent observation.

This is one of JORRs favorite things to rail on. He is convinced people like Bernsie are lying about their favorite team. I see no reason to buy it. There are MANY things to be irritated with Bernsie about, but I think he knows better than anyone else who his favorite baseball team is.

Come on JORR you are grasping here.

It's not about admitting that the Cubs were better last season. It's the way he talks about the respective teams. You can actually hear the emotional connection in his voice when he discusses the Cubs and that predates them being good or Theo joining them. I told you he was a Cub fan long before that. Once Epstein was in town it went to another level. And now that they actually won, he never talks about being a Sox fan anymore, does he?

Never been an actual Sox fan.

But if the Sox go to the World Series next year, he will be chasing the bandwagon down Shields.

Grew up a Cubbie fan in Deerfield, for Cubbie PBP guy in Rockford and current Theo fan boy and sycophant.
