So I was listening to Paul Sullivan on the Score talking about the Cubs. He stated that if it looks like the Cubs won't resign Arrieta during the upcoming season then the Cubs should think about trading him. Does this make any sense? Wouldn't you just let him play out the season and be one of your top starters in the playoffs? Sure, you could trade him for prospects but then you open up a hole in the rotation for the rest of the season.

Unless you trade him for Verlander. Hole in rotation solved.

I guess but Sullivan said prospects. The Cubs don't need prospects.

Under the old QO rules, he would have value to a bad team as a flip candidate in mid-July. Don't know about the new CBA.

I can see Jake going out the door in a three-way deal which brings back somebody like Chris Archer. Jake to say Houston, a couple of Houston's better prospects and Soler to Tampa, Archer and some lottery tickets from both Houston and Tampa to Chicago.

I don't see Jake being traded to another team straight-up, because the teams that should be interested in Jake don't have a MLB ready pitcher to send back.

Trade the guy who has 40 wins in the regular season over the past 2 seasons and won 2 of the 4 games in the World Series??? No. Let him play out the 2017 season with all the incentive in the world to have a monster season and then say thank you very much and best of luck to you if his asking price is too outrageous.....which I expect it will be.

Let him walk for nothing in return. Great idea.

Matt I don't know if you're aware of this but Steve was in favor of getting Denard Span and Jordan Zimmerman last year. No word yet if he was ever on the caveman diet.

The same AL who he buttfucked in the WS and made himself a contender for MVP? I'm sure he's trembling. #2016

Yes, let him walk after helping the team win another World Series hopefully. Trading for lesser players would make it less likely they might successfully defend their title.

That is correct. But I would still like to see it happen.

This was my thought as well. So if you trade Arrieta then you just open up a hole in your rotation that you will look to fill with.... a trade using your prospects? Obviously, this team is in its prime. You let it ride with Arrieta and hope to defend your WS. Afterwords, you let him walk and say thanks for the 3 great years at a bargain price and hopefully 2 World Series.
