Not a big surprise

Jesse Rogers
ESPN Staff Writer

The Cubs will increase the cost of season tickets from 6 to 31 percent next year depending on location. The average ticket increase will be 19.5 percent. Club box infield seats will increase the most.

They should increase the prices 500%. People will pay them.

6% for upper deck reserve. 30% for lower deck box seats. Although it's not really shocking, actually. Everybody knew this was coming. Cubs were already top 3 or 4 in ticket prices. Now they have to be near the Yankees.

Bernstein: Woooooo hooooo!!!!! MORE MONEY!!!!!!!

They should. They're gonna sell out every game except some of the April games. Even those games will have 30k at least.

In 15 years they will own everything around there. It will be like going to downtown Disney. Shit will be super expensive.

not surprised in the least.

We'll cover it, this year will be a bonanza for me (well, not for me but for my seats)

It's expensive now with them not owning everything. Will be the same once they do. They'll never get all the bars, though. Why would those owners sell at this point?

Why do you continue to "keep" the tickets if you cannot even use them or even re-sell them? I'd tell your pal that it will cost him $10,000 (on top of the money to cover the cost of the tickets) if he wants them, or you will give them up. Your friend is using you.

No they won't.

Last year they did have MANY sell outs. But there were games which I couldn't make and had to sell under face or looked on craigslist/stubhub under cost.

 they are no longer my tickets. A few years ago when I was working 3 jobs to make ends meet, I sold my rights to a good friend, who agreed to take them for a few years and keep whatever profits we got on my seat (1 of 4). I have an option to buy back the tickets next year, but financially I'm not sure I'll be able to pull that off, though I am back on my feet fiscally. I go to any game I want, and he graciously let me go to game 5 instead of selling them for 2 grand plus, which was his right.

it's all about when you sell. A ton of tickets sell in Jan/Feb before the market is properly gauged. Later in the season you can nab some bargains.

Just a matter of time before the Ricketts get Tunney in their pockets and he passes a bunch of new regulations that the business owners cannot meet, which forces them to sell.

The upside of the tickets being more expensive is that it results in more tickets being available than if the tickets were cheaper.

And it seems pretty likely the payroll will be lower next year.

Holy shit! Just opened my ticket invoice email. My 4 seats, in Sect 38, which is outfield box, went from $28,500 up to $37,500. The cost of winning.

Well congrats on being a big shooter. Unless I were selling a huge percentage of those tickets I would say thanks for the WS bye.

I sell half to a ticket partner and sell a lot more to friends and associates. I'll be selling more on StubHub or whatever service they have this year...especially since they're likely to get rid of that stupid rule that tickets come offline 6 hours before gametime. That old rule was a big fuck you to fans trying to sell tickets last minute.
