USA Today’s Bob Nightengale reports that minor league outfielder Luis Alexander Basabe and minor league right-hander Victor Diaz are going to the White Sox as well

Next comes the part where Kenny Williams and Chris Sale spar with each other in the media and the Sox have yet another one of their patented messy divorces. I'm sure Chris Sale's asshole nature and newfound Boston home will make it even worse.

As a negotiating tactic because you realize you do need to move him? Fine. As an actual position to take? That'd be silly.

It's about opportunity cost. Keeping Sale and hoping for a better deal means that Sale as an asset devalues in the time that you hold onto him (year older, less control, closer to free agency, another season or half-season of wear and tear on his shoulder/elbow). Also during that time, teams are left to further evaluate the prospects they originally offered you, and in the event one of the pieces they offered you starts to get really, really good, that piece then becomes a larger portion of any eventual deal (think: Benintendi at the trade deadline last season versus at the Winter Meetings now), and your chances of receiving greater future value in return for Sale diminish.

They probably could have had Benintendi-Moncada-Kopech+ last off-season, but decided to give the "hold on and try to sign pieces around Sale and Quintana" plan one more (failed) go. Thankfully, the Nationals were there to help keep the price for Sale high, and Hahn was able to turn Boston's offer of Benintendi-Kopech+ at the deadline last year into Moncada-Kopech+ today. Still, though, Benintendi is much closer to "proven MLB commodity" than Moncada.

I sure wouldn't bet on him being better than Durham. I wouldn't have traded Sale. THIS. IS. THE. PROBLEM. WITH. TELLING. YOU. EXACTLY. WHAT. THEY. ARE. GOING. TO. DO. It was like they made a decision to trade Sale and got what they could. That's not a decision I would have made. I would have made it clear I was comfortable keeping him.

Agree with JORR here. They aren't under the clock and short of trading for Archer, there is no other stud out there. And frankly, Archer isn't Chris Sale.

Short of Sale being a pud whack and sitting out to demand a trade. Time was the Sox friend and they could hold the sox and nationals hostage.

fyi heres the new Sox top 10 prospects

1 Yoan Moncada 2b/3b
2 Zack Collins C/Dh
3 Michael Kopech Rhp
4 Carson Fulmer Rhp
---TOP 100 PROSPECTS---
5 Zack Burdi Rhp
6 Alexander Basabe Of
7 Alec Hansen Rhp
8 Charlie Tilson Of
9 Spencer Adams Rhp
10 Jordan Stephens Rhp

That's my opinion but it'll be mostly in line with how they all are ranked down the road.

This is probably a top 15 system right now. After trading everyone else at similar discount rates that they gave out for Sale they'll be top 10, maybe top 5 depending on the breaks.

Once I'm done being pissed and I'm not sure when that will be I will be much more excited about Kopach than Moncada.

It's probably best to judge this trade before any of the principals have played an inning for their new teams anyway.

A couple days ago I kept saying Hahn and KW should be fired. Now I want them both murdered. I'm pretty much done with the Sox until these two fucking clowns are gone.

I don't know why you feel there was some imperative to move Sale. I've been a Sox fan for almost fifty seasons. There haven't been too many times over that period when they've had a better young controllable core than they did just now before they traded Sale with Sale, Quintana, Rodon, Eaton, Abreu, and Anderson. Maybe never. But to keep surrounding them with bargain options isn't really a great plan. But I would agree that if that was all ownership was willing to do, they may as well have traded Sale.

This is kind of where I am as well, but it extends beyond the GM(s).

Until the team is sold there is no Reason to have any hope regarding this franchise.

True. When Jerry Reinsdorf finally dies it will be a glorious day.

They traded arguably the most valuable player in baseball for used socks

Red Sox reportedly to pay the rest of Moncada's deal. That's nice. Guess that tells you what they really think of him.

No, they're going to pay the rest of his signing bonus, $31 million over 3 years when they signed him as an international amateur free agent (they also had to pay $30 million in tax for completely overshooting their international signing pool allotment).

It says absolutely nothing about how much they thought of him, especially because they committed $63 million just to sign him.

Paying him $10M/yr to play against them.

So instead of getting better players in the back of the deal like Groome or Travis they took the money. Cheap fuckers.

Jerry FUCKING Reinsdorf ladies and gents...cant believe it. You add Swihart to this deal and being something I can stomach, but I guess that's not important.
