So the drought is over, the curse is broken, you jack up ticket prices 19% (20M + in new revenues just from that), Arrieta is likely gone after 2017, and you are NOT going after Jansen or Chapman??

WTF.

Go get Jansen and be done with it.

Wade Davis has arm issues, Carl Edwards isn't ready, Rondon is not a lock down closer and no one proven is out there via trade that won't cost a prospect arm and leg.

Maybe they are just bluffing and playing the game and will swoop in and get Jansen?

Will they risk another deadline move next year??

We shall see, but to me, get Jansen and say fuck you to their competitors as this guy should be good for 2-3 years at least on a likely 4 year deal.

That Jason Heyward money could have bought a few players.

So I guess it's hope that Davis stays healthy for a year and then give the job to Edwards.

Least Heyward made "the speech" and is moving to AZ to rework his swing.

As for Davis, if healthy, he's is a proven closer, but let's see what they give up.

Depends on what they give up.

I still prefer paying Jansen thus filling the position for 2-3+ years.

And of course they could extend Davis if they like what they see...

Looks like Davis is likely. If they want to develop a closer for 2018, whether it's Edwards or someone else, I can see this. The money Jansen and Chapman are seeking is crazy.

Off topic....but about Heyward. Buddy just texted me. Friend of a friend works for the Cubs. He said no one from the top down in the organization likes Heyward.

I wish he would have never told me that.

I doubt that is true. You know damn well they researched the hell out of his character and how he is in the clubhouse. And from everything we as fans hear, he is a damn good teammate.

I find that really hard to believe about Heyward.

I know. They wouldn't give him that cash if he was an ass.

Now the seed has been planted in my mind.

There could be a snag in the Wade Davis-to-the-Cubs deal, according to a source. Never was done and far from a certain thing at this point.

I don't buy that. I can see guys shaking their heads about the money he makes for a guy who hits as poorly as he did last season, but I have always thought he was pretty well liked by teammates. He's always given effort and did not pop off when he was benched in the playoffs for a while, where many others in such a situation might. I didn't want him and regret they signed him, but don't buy that he is generally disliked.

Huh. Hopefully the snag is they are signing Jansen.

Back to Heyward.....same guy told my buddy they are trying to move him.

OK. I'll stop now.

If he was being shopped, it would be in the press. Plus I'm sure he has a no trade and who the fuck wants that contract??

They are stuck with Heyward unless they just want to eat lot of money. I trust they will do the right thing.

Well I know I predicted it but the get rid of Heyward and his money has come faster than I imagined. Besides I thought Bernsie told us all money will not be a Cubs issue?

Since I said that signing him would be a mistake, this is no surprise to me. Money is always an issue and the money they have to pay Heyward is money they do not have to pay better players, as well as money they will not have to put towards retaining key players. Yes, they will have new revenue streams opening up, so they should not have a huge problem with money. But I don't think they want to rival the Dodgers payroll either.

They also did not foresee the changes to the luxury tax issues in the new CBA.

Why the shit are Jedstein looking to get Davis? Only 1 year left on his deal and he's gonna blow out his arm.

Still must be drinking

They think Edwards can be a good closer, but don't want to press him into the role just yet. I'm not sure he will do well in that role, but they think he can. But with a team built to win now, they want a guy like Davis that can handle that job in 2017. I really wanted Jansen, but his price tag may have given them sticker shock.

As far as dislike for Heyward...I could understand huge frustration that he refused to change his approach at the plate during the season. If he makes strides over the winter, all will be forgiven.

The hangup in Wade Davis' reported deal to the Cubs? The Nationals have made a late push.

I still prefer Jansen, but if healthy, he is World Series tested and Maddon knows him from Tampa.

Again, if acquired, gotta see who they give up.

If Davis had three years left, I might be ok with this.

But for a rental with injury history? Absolutely no way.

Got a text saying the latest MLB Network scuttlebutt is that it would be Davis for Soler (plus salary retention), Happ, and a prospect. Ugh.
