I can support a rebuild. I can not support the .500 season. Tear it down, and a nice side effect is a top 10 pick, which they seem to be getting right. In sports, it is either all or nothing, and both are almost wins if you know what you are doing. If you win it, you win. If you suck it up and rebuild with top 10 picks and hit on them, you win.

The only thing bigger than hitting on draft picks is being able to honestly evaluate the talent you already have. You do those two things and you can win and win often even without the biggest payroll.

In the last year or two haven't the Sox acknowledged a problem and changed various personnel in scouting and development?

I have can not say I have heard anything. I have seen better drafts the last couple to few years. Last years draft seems by the first 3 picks to of been good.

So, the Sox don't do anything, you are not happy. They make a trade, and you are not happy?

Yes, that is the board theme for MANY since the move was announced.

I guarantee if the Sox went out and signed Beltran or Fowler, the same Sox fans (except for possibly JoeOrr) who are bemoaning this trade would be complaining about those types of moves yet again....and the same Cubs fans would be laughing about it.

Chicago fans are fucking terrible.

If something isn't working make a change. The past many moons, the sox would sign a DH and "go" for it. Finally, this off season they change course. I am happy. I will support this. Now, I have to getting over my ban of the stadium name...... Or just drink heavily before going into Comiskey.

Trading Sale is fine.

Trading Sale just to trade him is stupid.

There is no reason for fans to believe that the Sox are adequately capabale of judging talent.

Fuck this stupid franchise.

I think some of those have to be good young hitters, which the Sox do not have. You have named 3, which I would take the hitter out of that.

Abreu and Eaton are more than solid and I left Rodon off.

It seems most Sox fans in the White Sox Facebook groups support the trade. I understand why that is. I'm tired of the same old shit too. But I think when Sale is 13-2 next July and the Sox are headed toward 100 losses a lot of those fans are going to have to reevaluate their feelings. Moncada better be real good. And that isn't going to happen next season.

For me, those 100 loses means the top pick and possibly a game changing player.

And maybe this is the start of a new way of thinking and doing things for the Sox.

Regardless, I can't imagine you being too broken up about this trade. You were waving the W around the Wrigley Bleachers 6 weeks ago, and when the Sox are back in the playoffs you will be cheering for them again.

A new way of doing what? They're going to work to get the same players they already had.

I'm a Sox fan regardless of their record. This Bears team is the closest I've ever been to not caring. Thanks for your concern.

If that is the case, he would negotiate to get all that low income housing away from Comiskey and build up the area.

Well, what they were doing was not working. This is a change. Kenny liked to trade for aging players, Rick seems to be doing the opposite(not calling Sale old).

Based on your comments and other the Sox made the right move beyond a doubt. No matter what they did it is clear the majority of the fan base would hate the choice or the ability of them to execute. So they should say screw the fans not coming anyway and try something new. They will hope by their example during this process they will win some fans back and lure new ones. What they clearly recognized is there is no more pleasing the fans with near 500 tries and they have no money to buy a champion.

So sit back and watch or don't.

as the kids like to say here, it was not limited to binary options

They have a low cost veteran base in place. They have three years of near top ten picks in development. There was the opportunity to make a few bold moves at the MLB level this off season that, at the same time, would not have damaged development in the future. They could have been good now AND 3-5 years down the line.

This is bullshit. MANY of us didn't believe they needed to rebuild. MANY of us were okay with him trading Sale if they got proper value. The Sox had a million dollar property that any team would want. Instead of working the market to get $1.25 to $1.5 million for it they sold it for $400k.

I wanted Fowler. This team really wasn't far away. Especially considering the top 3 in their rotation.

There might be a few teams in the NL with 100 losses. And the Sox could end up with Mark Appel. A lose-on-purpose rebuild is only great in theory. Many teams have gone that route and only Epstein has succeeded and he's only in the second year of the team being good. The idea that the Cubs will dominate baseball for the next ten seasons is just that- an idea. It isn't that easy. The Royals stockpiled picks for a long time and were bad forever. They made two WS in a row and won one then went back to being a .500 team in third place. I think you can probably achieve that kind of "sustained success" without purposely losing for years on end.

New would have been launching, at the very least, KW. The team stunk from the top down, but here we sit with the same guys in charge.

Just like the Bears with Cutler, you sometimes just have to try something new.

Now, Sale is elite and Cutler isn't even a good starting quarterback but you can only go so many times while being all in.

It's also how baseball is played now. Every team is either tanking or coming out of tanking or they are rich.

To me it's sort of like the guy on the bench always being the more popular Bear quarterback. The guy you don't have isn't always better than the guy already on your team.

Larry is now excited about renewing his tickets. I think it's safe to say most people cheering a complete breakdown won't be buying a lot of tickets.

Also, Goff just mentioned Appel right after I did. Interesting.

I really didn't understand the spin Holmes was putting on it. It sounded like complete bullshit. He's saying that we should all be excited to watch games of a team that we know will be one of the worst in baseball.
