Its worse for the Nationals than the Sale trade was for us. We all know that Eaton is a decent, everyday OF on a nice team friendly deal. Ultimately that is barely worth Giolito or Lopez ALONE...Hahn got both plus Dunning. What do they do when Ross gets hurt? Or when Strasburg cant pitch anymore in late August?

Completely moronic. I think Rizzo got desperate after Melancon and Sale both got snatched right out from under his nose.

So this means Hahn won another stirring hot stove pennant.

that's the second highest upside arm they got in this trade. they actually got a guy who could be better than this in the same trade...FOR ADAM EATON

Yep I think I'm out. You can have my spot. When this team is good again 10 years from now I may come back.

This deal makes the Sale trade palatable. If all seven of these guys had been on the same team and the trade would have been Sale/Eaton for all of them I would have thought it was fine.

I'm not a prospect guy. I won't predict the Hall of Fame for any of these guys. Like I said, I think you had a young controllable core in place that, with the right complements, could have won. But it was clear they weren't going to spend the money for the right guys to surround them. I was tired of watching this team struggle to score runs. However things turn out, what they got for Eaton is ridiculous.

Cowley and bernstein keep suggesting that Sale and particularly Eaton were bad clubhouse guys. I take that with a grain of salt because they both dislike the Sox, but maybe it's true.

Eaton is the player rep so he's obligated to go against management sometimes. I didn't get a bad impression from him like I did from Sale. That said Eaton as a ballplayer is wildly overrated by advanced metrics. Can you guess which White Sox OF had the best OPS last year? Hint: it wasn't Adam Eaton.

There was talk that Eaton annoyed his way out of Arizona. He said some stupid shit with the Sox too. "Drake is our leader". Give me a fucking break!

Melky had a good year. But that's another reason that I don't think they got enough for Sale. If you have a powerhouse rotation, and are strong up the middle, you can always find corner outfielders like Melky. Nobody thinks about him, but he's a solid ballplayer.

Eaton as a 24 year old was apparently annoying in AZ. I think he matured while he was here, you remember how he used to sprint to 1st after a walk? He stopped doing that dumb shit. He also kept pretty quiet, other than the LaRoche debacle.

If every veteran the Sox acquired the past 2 offseason stepped up and performed like Melky did in 2016 the Sox would not gutting their MLB roster. He's really the only one (Frazier was OK, I guess) that did well. I refuse to believe that Eaton was 4 times as valuable as Melky was to the 2016 White Sox also...I watched those games and those two contributed very similarly all year.

This would be a terrible trade for Nat's on the surface. When you add the fact that they desperately need a CF and Eaton is way less valuable in CF than RF its downright crazy

I think Eaton was right. But I believe was the ringleader when the Sox revolted against Mariners' clubhouse dues policy.

The problem there was the revolt got leaked. But maybe there were other flare ups not discovered by beat guys?

Don't think we'll ever find out as White Sox don't shit all over guys leaving like the Red Sox always do.

Don is right. Sox fans are looking stupid right now. It would be like if Regular Reader overnight started ripping every democrat and praising every conservative. That's how bizarre it is to see dolphin going nuts today and even guys like JORR agreeing with him.

Well one trade was pretty underwhelming and the other one is (appears to be) shockingly great

I read some opinions that the Sox panicked a bit yesterday and forced the Sale deal. If the Sox were slightly panicked the Nats were having a full blown attack today.

Nats could have signed Fowler too.

No.

Aside from the two lottery tickets at the back end of the Red Sox pacakge everyone the Sox acquired will, barring injury, be on the opening day roster in 2018. Maybe not Kopech, but he is not far behind the rest after that AFL domination.

This is not a 5 year tankjob. All the major pieces they've received so far are close to the majors.

The specifics don't matter. Maybe I wasn't clear enough.

You are either ok with tanking multiple seasons or you are not. There's not really a middle ground. Dolphin and JORR have wasted thousands of words on this site bemoaning the idea of throwing away multiple seasons before they even happen. But now that the Sox are doing it it's the greatest GMing they've ever seen.
