He's a mediocre pitcher. There's absolutely nothing remarkable about him. He pitches well a time and a half through the lineup and he often gets to the spot where the game is on the line and fails to make the pitch.

One of my MLB guys: "Sox made a fabulous trade today."

I think that's overstating it a bit. The White Sox at least got a good prospect out of the deal.

Yeah, I don't really see that type of consensus reaction either. Seems like those who value the war stat like the trade for both sides, and those that don't think the sox killed the Nats on the trade.

I know two guys who work in MLB and both of them texted me expressing shock over the deal. Somebody on B&b said that there was a huge buzz at the meetings over how much the Sox got for Eaton.

I'd attribute that more to an environment in which having good prospects gets more praise than putting a good major league team on the field does.

I agree. I don't think the Sox won the Super Bowl today. But it's probably better than eveyone thinking you got it stuck up your ass.

Excellent haul here by the Pale Hose.

Now unload Q, Abreu, Frazier, Robertson, Melky and Jones too.

Let's hope they have kicked up their minor league scouting dept so they can get some good value for these vets, especially Q.

I don't dislike Quintana. I just understand who he is. Just like I understood who Jeff Samardzija was when MANY people expected him to leave the shitty Cub teams he was on and suddenly become Cy Young. Just like MANY thought Kyle Hendricks was mediocre because he doesn't throw 100 mph. I'm really good at understanding who a starting pitcher is.

Giolito is 0-1. Do you understand you're applauding trading a 6+ WAR player for a losing pitcher?

I didn't think you had any because actual data debunks this theory.

Well, the fact that he has lost half his decisions is real data. You and I just disagree on what it means. I really hope he gets dealt to Houston so it becomes eminently clear how much better a guy like Collin McHugh is than Quintana. But even then, I'm sure you will complain that Correa and Altuve refuse to hit for "Poor" Jose.

I hope you aren't getting nervous. I'm was confident Shark sucked and I'm confident that Quintana is the goods and the data backs that up.

I'm not nervous. I'm confident that Quintana is as mediocre as they come. But hey, as long as he's on the Sox I hope he proves me wrong.

Robertson isn't good, he's overpaid to boot, doubt any team takes on his contract. Frazier is meh, might find a team that takes him but don't expect anything substantial coming back. Abreu and Quintana could bring back quite a haul.

I think the problem is, he is not flashy. I think he is a solid #2 pitcher on a good team.

I think the problem is, you guys take it easy on JORR even though his take on Quintana is historically bad. He'd be getting steamrolled elsewhere. Laughed off of the internet.

I think he's less than that. To me, Jon Lester is a great number two pitcher. Buehrle was a great number two pitcher. If you have three guys in your rotation better than Jose Quintana, you probably have a good team. For example, nobody even talks about Gio Gonzalez. But I would never say Quintana was better than he is.

Quintana is a useful guy. He takes the ball, gives you the innings, produces a relatively low ERA. If you have a team that is slugging like a motherfucker, of course his record is going to be a little better. He wouldn't get in those spots where his sphincter gets tight if Bryant and Rizzo are staking him to a seven run lead. But if I have to go into a game and I'm picking pitchers who are going to go out there and win a ballgame for me, Quintana is way, way down the list.

Do you think this is the only place I've ever had this conversation? Really? There is no baseball conversation where I get steamrolled. I could argue your side better than you do. I know all the numbers. I understand every statistic. Laughed off the Internet? That isn't really a bad thing. The Internet is a complete Idiocracy. A place where people believe in #pizzagate.

So apparently Rizzo wants Robertson. I dont know how he doesn't just get Robertson added to the Eaton deal though. He sure as hell gave up enough.

Yeah, now Robertson might command Robles if they lose out on Kenley Jansen.

If they get Robles for broken down David Robertson I may have a heart attack. There's no way Rizzo does that unless someone has a gun to his head. Now, I could maybe possibly see Rizzo making a disastrous trade of Robles for Jones AND Robertson but even that borders on fantasyland. Aside from Quintana none of the Sox remaining assets are worth Victor Robles.

I'm glad they haven't coupled players in these trades yet. I think you end up getting more by trading them as individual pieces
