Do they have any black guys on the roster?

And remember, they have to be "daaayyyyum" black, not Caribbean black.

What now?

That's one thing I will not miss about Terry, his thoughts on all things Cardinals.

A selection of players on the Cardinals roster from 2016:

Jhonny Peralta
Kolten Wong
Yadier Molina
Aledmys Diaz
Greg Garcia
Tommy Pham
Alberto Rosario
Ruben Tejada
Jose Martinez
Carlos Martinez
Jaime Garcia
Seung-hwan Oh
Alex Reyes
Jerome Williams

That list is perfect reason enough to abandon other, more reasonable, explanations of why Dexter Fowler might not want to sign with the Cardinals and play for Mike Matheny, and instead insinuate he--or anyone else in the organization, or the organization as a whole--is racist.

I hope they get sued.

Rumblings from some blog about why Fowler is hesitant to sign with STL

That's not a baseball team, that's a rejected Benetton ad.

Dexter Fowler might not sign with the St. Louis Cardinals, perhaps because they are in the same division as the Cubs, and at best can hope for a wild card spot for the foreseeable future, or maybe because their top-to-bottom organizational talent level is "meh". But, someone somewhere thought it might be because Mike Matheny/The Cardinals are racist, because despite MLB having an acknowledged under-representation of black people, The Cardinals don't seem to sign and keep around a lot of black guys.

Anyway, that's all people needed to start whispering and murmuring about Fowler not wanting to sign with the Cards because of what is now insinuated as "institutionalized racism".

I don't believe he's a racist, but he sure as hell ain't warm and fuzzy.

Maybe Dex really enjoyed the Maddon experience?

Money's money, sure, but I suspect it'd be quite the change in atmosphere going from here to there ... or perhaps anywhere really.

Ah thanks for the explanation.

I absolutely hate the Cardinals, but I do not at all think they are racist. From everything I read and heard the absolutely loved Heyward and everyone wanted him back. One of their most beloved players ever is Bob Gibson. If Fowler chooses to not sign there I do not think it has anything to do with race.

Seems like much ado about nothing.

The town itself is... to be fair (source: I grew up there and am non-white) racist... maybe not Boston level racist, but it's there.
Ozzie Smith, Willie McGee, Gibson, Brock... are some of the most beloved franchise icons. Basically I think he doesn't want to go there, similar to how Heyward wanted to be elsewhere. It's a non-story story, but whatever generates the clicks and likes; as far as Terry, he's just going through all his classic material before he heads to the big DaManeeeeiiil radio pasture in the sky, is my theory.

I don't care about that. LaRussa was king douchebag. Matheny is a piss-poor manager and a control freak. They've basically been successful despite him.

Isn't it the Cubs who have been accused of being racist in either their organization/fanbase by several players?

None of those guys played in Philadelphia, apparently. Some drunk bros said some shit in right field to some guys at some point, and that "R" card persists as a talking point in the media for decades, it seems.

Racist people can like blacks. They just view the ones they like as different.

The Cubs have only had one black player play a World Series game for them.

Fowler should be booed relentlessly in his first game back at Wrigley if he signs with the Cardinals.

The racial makeup of the Cubs isn't exactly We Are Family.
