This appears to be kind of sliding under the radar in the wake of fleecing for Adam Eaton. Apparently deal is getting close. No word yet from Rosenthal yet, so who knows.

I tend to agree with JORR on him as a pitcher.

But I also do not like the price that it would take to get him. If the Cubs are going to put a package together for a pitcher I would rather it be Archer or Sonny

Would love to reel the Yankees into Q talks but I dont know how they would feel about re-acquiring a guy they let go.

That seems like a logical landing spot, especially after the Red Sox got Sale. It's funny to hear the whining coming from the Bronx as if the tables have turned and Boston is now the Evil Empire.

The Cubs are going to be the Evil Empire very soon.

We'll see what happens with the Cubs. Hendricks was a very important thing for them. You could see that starting pitching was going to be a problem for them and an obstacle to Elmhurst Steve's fantasies. Arrieta will be too expensive to make sense, although they certainly could sign him if they want to. It would likely make their situation worse. Lackey will be gone. I don't think Montgomery is anything but a mediocre starter. And they'll probably be choking on Lester before that deal is over. The acceptance of Hendricks for what he is- very difficult when pitchers are judged first on their "stuff", how hard they throw- was a godsend for the Cubs.

I think the real loss is Fowler.

Between free agents and trades that they can make using minor league position players for pitching, they have already demonstrated the ability to fill any pitching needs. They will add depth before spring training and I think you are wrong about Montgomery. I think he can be a good starter for them. I do believe they should have picked up the option on Hammel though. If for no reason other than depth, in case they have an injury to a starter in the spring. I am guessing that Theo and Jed are not going to go to spring training with the current lack of depth.

You may be right. He was a legit leadoff hitter. I am guessing Zobrist takes on that role now, with his high OBP. Almora actually hit a point higher than Fowler in 2016 and is a better defender, but how well he hits when in the lineup on a regular basis and not inserted into games where he is put in a situation they believe he can succeed, is yet to be seen. I believe he will thrive and be a gold glove CF as well. But Fowler is a guy who came up big in a lot of big situations.

I definitely think excited fans are underestimating how crucial he was to that offense. I believe TheoandJed are aware of it, but they know you have to give your guys a shot. Almora has done everything necessary to earn a crack at center. They'll have to figure out what to do at leadoff. Maybe Schwarber will fill that role. We'll see.

I don't see Fowler leaving having any effect, Almora is better defensively and even if he isn't quite as good as Dexter, Schwarber getting 500 at bats and Heyward hitting better should be a net gain even minus Fowler, the team will score more runs next year.

You'd have gone broke, cause I know you would have bet everything you owned against the Cubs winning the World Series last year or Bryant being MVP.
