Are you seriously suggesting that Hahn's recent moves are akin to Theo's moves when he took over the Cubs? That trading Sale is the first step in a knock off White Sox "Plan"?
I agree with you, but Cub fans (and FavreFan) are trying to play it both ways. "Sox fans mocked the Cubs for losing on purpose and now they're happy when the Sox do the same thing!" So the question becomes, are they doing the same thing or not? I would say they are not. Epstein remade the entire organization. Hahn doesn't have the power to do that. And the Sox are not putting a plan in place where purposeful losing for several seasons is a key component.
In the case of the Cubs, the purposeful losing worked. For other teams that have followed a similar model, it has not. And let's not forget that there is luck involved. I remember how much Cub fans hated Ryan Dempster when he got in the way of The Plan® by rejecting the trade
Theo had completed to the Dodgers for Delgado. But then they got Hendricks from Texas instead. I guess you can thank luck. Or Ryan Dempster.
Let's be crystal clear about something right now. I've been one of the only people on this board regardless of fandom that has been consistent throughout the last 5+ years about baseball. I'm not trying to have it both ways. It's absolutely disagraceful for any team, anywhere, in any sport, to tank an entire season before its played. Theo went to the Cubs and instantly said he does not give a shit about the next three seasons and I hammered him harder than any of you. Same with Sam Hinkie and the 76ers. Now my team is doing it and I went after them as hard as I criticized Theo and Hinkie.
Be honest. Between the two of us, who is trying to have it both ways? I've never wavered in my conviction. You can't say the same. Understandably, you didn't want to see the same old shit year after year, and this was the offseason where you finally broke and said fuck it and gave in. But you absolutely went back on your previously held belief that "the team owes it to the paying customer to attempt to field a competitive team". It's fine if you think that, but let's not make any mistake about who is trying to have it both ways between the two of us.
