It's a completely self serving gift. Presumably they're for me but if she had asked me I would have said not to buy them. She really wanted to go so then they become her gift to me. Then I find that we just happened to be going with a bunch of her friends. So now I'm going to a concert I wouldn't have gone to on my own with people I wouldn't have gone with and I am supposed to be appreciative of the thought.

I had a great time and I'd do it again.

Sometimes I'm just a grump.

A new iron and a carpet shampooer. Car wax and a cloth. Tell her if she works really hard in the upcoming year she might get a maid and a new car next Christmas if all goes well.

If catalogs are coming pay attention if she makes a comment. She might also say she likes something or needs something over the next few weeks. If you can think of anything that will make her life easier or something she wants to replace but wouldn't buy for herself those are good gifts.
