Very hard to disagree. I still watch the reruns even though I've seen the episodes 10+ times.

But Friends set the table for every "20 somethings with seemingly infinitely disposable income who hang out together" sitcom to follow. Friends wins.

Best overall is clearly Seinfeld.

She then wrote 'your favorite'.

There are so many that you aren't really thinking of. Some will say Cheers but I liked

80s - Family Ties
90 - Seinfeld
00s - Rules of Engagement

In all this we are missing things like Fraiser, Wonder Years, Married with Children, Newhart, Friends which is too girlish for here, Cosby Show - but yuck.

WZ will have better insight but Seinfeld and Friends were neck and neck with different ages.

Are the Simpsons, South Park, and King of the Hill considered sitcoms? If not, I'm pretty sure Seinfeld is the only sitcom I actually like.

The animated stuff I think goes in a category by themselves.

As for favorites by decade,

60s: Get Smart
70s: Three's Company
80s: Cheers
90s: The Wonder Years
00s: It's Always Sunny

Would High Maintenance be considered a sitcom? Probably the only other one I like outside of Seinfeld. Trying to come up with a second

All In The Family
Seinfeld
MASH
Cheers
Curb
The Honeymooners
Simpsons
Fawlty Towers
Dick Van Dyke Show
Mary Tyler Moore
Bob Newhart Show
Andy Griffith
Odd Couple
Taxi

All still watchable and hilarious to this day.

Honorable mention to:

WKRP
Barney Miller
Just Shoot Me
Larry Sanders
Wings
Dream On
Northern Exposure
Frasier
Will and Grace
Scrubs
Modern Family
Arrested Development

I'm sure I'm missing a classic or two.

Second honorable mention:

Archer (seriously hilarious)

Anyone who says 2-1/2 Men gets taken out back and shot.

Curb Your Enthusiasm is not a sitcom.

My two favorites are Seinfeld and Married With Children.

i wouldn't call "Northern Exposure" a sitcom. Nor "The Wonder Years" although that at least was a half hour and did have "situational" comedies.

"The Honeymooners" is the gold standard. It's literally the definition of what a sitcom is.

"Seinfeld" did so much with the format and managed to turn a TV show into the best social commentary of the modern age, so I can't say anything can top it as far as quality--and it has lasting appeal. SOME on this board find "The Honeymooners" cruel and misogynistic ::coughtheymissthepointcough::. But I'd go with "Seinfeld".

"Friends" had a chance at being the cute version of "Seinfeld" but got so tangled up in stupid love affair tangents that it fucked itself up and became almost unwatchable toward the end.

"Frasier" *is* a close second. The only weakness to me was when Niles and Daphne got together...that's what killed "The Office" too. Tension is what makes good comedy.

I loved Seinfeld and have seen the episodes too many times but my answer for this question could be 30 Rock for me. I loved that show and it doesn't have the same overexposure of Seinfeld.

i felt that way about the first 2 seasons of "30 Rock"; then it just seemed to be more obnoxious than funny. reminded me too much of "Scrubs".
