Rashard Griffith has to be one of the most couriest cases.

He could have played a long time in the NBA, even if it was just a high paid backup. Instead, he played his entire pro career in Europe and never seemed to look back. I don't know if the money was so great in Europe that he had no reason to come back or if he was just leaving behind baggage but the NBA never seemed like an attraction to him.

While you are going there Jamie Brandon.

Best High School team I ever saw was the 89-90 King Jaguars. Rashaad was a Freshman and there starting center. They beat the hell out of us at King and we made it a little closer at Phillips. They were loaded.

He went to Wisconsin had a good two years turned pro and for some reason never gave the NBA a look. He did make good coin over in Turkey I believe. He won a few MVPs and never came back. He is back now.
Jaime was a Senior on that team. They could beat a number of college teams.

Leon Smith actually started out at Mt. Carmel (I would love to know who was paying that tuition). The day basketball tryouts started he withdrew and transferred to King  . Emanuel Dildy followed suit two years later after we lost our Catholic League Opener to Rita. Left the next day.

Started watching those LSU teams just to see him hopefully break out.

I'd agree with you about his King team though, at least remembering basketball just back to the Morgan Park and Phillips teams of the 70's.

Yeah, Gordon had a great team in 1989-90 with Kleinschmidt, Gillespie, and Bey and they could barely give King a game. And in high school Kleinschmidt was one of those guys who refused to let his team lose. He tried his balls off in that final but King was just too big, too fast, too strong.

The undefeated Lockport team that smoked Isiah with Parzych and Barbeauld was really good and so was Quincy with Payne and the Douglas brothers.

Didn't that Quincy team win something like 81 in a row?

I have rarely been happier to read a sport's story than I was when I heard about how he kept grinding & got his master's degree and was doing well

Yeah. He works for CPS. Cool dude. Cox really stepped up to help him back then. Paid his legal fees. Cox used to catch hell for some of the stuff he did but in a lot respects he was the only thing a number of his players had. That and basketball. A number of his players have acquitted themselves ok over the years. Didn't make the league but they have jobs and have gone on with their life. He had to have played a role and counseling was his forte.

Mully did a decent interview with Aguirre this morning. I say "decent" because it was Mully so it's all relative. He got Joe Ponsetto confused with Andy Pancratz and had Corzine transferring to DePaul. Aguirre didn't seem to know anything about that anyway. But like I said, all in all it was pretty good. Mully got Aguirre to say he was better than Isiah.

One of them won gold in the next Olympics and two weeks thereafter no one cared again.
