back in the day i always got an impression like "European Vacation" was some kind of (relative?) disappointment compared to "Vacation" so "Christmas Vacation" was some kind of big ballyhooed return to form? is this right or is this me imagining things again?

either way "European Vacation" was obviously a classic the moment it gave us this timeless line of dialogue:

I watched Vegas Vacation at the drive in during my college days and it was pretty funny because whatever print they were using had the boom mikes in the shots and looked like it was edited by a group of high schoolers. Anyway, the movie isn't that great, but has nostalgic humor such as "I do not require them" and the last comedic moments of one Randy Quaid. I guess it wasn't really the last, but the last in a major role, pumpkintits.
