Thanks for setting up the chat yesterday. It was fun.

Barkley should hang around. If the Bears draft a QB, which they should, it is doubtful said draft pick will start the first game. Maybe Barkley shows to be a capable starter, but his arm strength seems insufficient to carry a team.

The 49ers suck. I think they are worse than their 1-11 record. Barkley did nothing in the first ~12minutes of this game.

Barkley is a capeable backup who should be in camp.with the Bears next year. Nothing more. The Bears dont necessarily have to use thier first pick on a QB, but they must draft at least 1.

Jay Cutler is more talnted than Barkley. That is a fact.

Almost everything you posted is wrong.

He went 11-18 for 190 yards in the snow, no interceptions or turnovers, with his throws setting up touchdown runs, and you're complaining about the first 12 minutes?

No, Cutler is not more talented than Barkley. He does not make the people around him better like Barkley does. Barkley does more with 4th, 5th and 6th string receivers than Cutler ever did with 1st stringers.

Come on people, stop thinking the Bears have their future QB in Barkley.

He has done fine, but he is nothing more than a backup. Sure keep him around. But the Bears still need to be looking for their future QB.

+1, and agree with Nas too.

Maybe Barkley is the starter next year. He is not a long term solution.

Jay Cutler has gotten a lot of backup quarterbacks paid in his time with the Bears

What's the story with Barkley?

He was a stud at one point at USC, and then what happened? Did the injury make him worse or was he just bad?

He is just a guy but does throw a decent ball when he has some protection. His receivers and O-line really let him down at the end of the game
yesterday when he was trying to pull victory from the jaws of defeat. He threw some nice balls in there that got called back. My big problem
with him is that when he is under pressure he gets scared and makes some really poor decisions. He's not a special player but seems serviceable
as a backup/mop up guy. I'd have him in camp next year.

Problem is your backup/ mop up guy isn't appreciably worse than your 50 million dollar rocket armed starter the last 8 years.

I haven't seen much Bears football this year but I doubt that I could argue with your point. We all know that Cutler contract was an albatross. He underperformed and
it appears he has been a bit of a douche behind the scenes. I am not seeing a franchise guy early in the draft so not addressing this in earlier drafts will bite them next
year. I am not even aware of any decent free agents if they did want to eat any money left on Cutlers deal. He may very well be back next year so they can squeeze
as much blood out of their little turnip as possible while the cap hit is actually manageable.

I was listening to Score pregame yesterday while snow blowing and someone asked Hub the same thing. He deferred to Greg Gabriel, who it turns out was tasked with evaluating QBs in that year's draft for the team who eventually took him (Eagles). I still have no idea of the answer after listening to both of these experts.

I think it was that USC had a down year and he threw a few picks overcompensating for a decrease in talent around him.

The truth is, never trust the evaluations of who is a #1 pick until after the players get in to the combine and individual workouts. It is difficult to tell which players are being lifted up or pulled down by the players/coaches around them.

Gabriel said only the TV draft guys had Barkley as a 1st round pick, the scouts didn't. He said that didn't necessarily mean he wouldn't be, but the scouts wouldn't have made a detailed evaluation until he came out, or something.

TV guys don't miss by 4 rounds. Gabriel is full of shit. Barkley is a prime example of why you don't stay in school... Cost him millions by getting hurt.

Some were saying that he would have been the 1st pick in the draft if he came out after his Junior year. You have to strike while the iron is hot.

Blame his receivers. He's throwing to 4th stringers who aren't even looking for the ball!!

I never mentioned Cutler.

Barkley is a stop gap and nothing more. The Bears scored very few offensive points last week, and all he has done since halftime is turn the ball over today.

Cutler is the other option which is why I mentioned him.

They do not have a stud QB on the roster and they are not going to sign one in FA and Fox will not start a rookie so there is no reason not to start him next year.

Like to see how he develops. Has some great pedigree.

Little egg on your face, Frank?

The Bears have their quarterback now in Barkley. If you want to get Romo, too, fine.

Even if San Fran is bad, Barkley was still throwing a lot of accurate passes in the worst of conditions yesterday, even downfield. He's the most talent at the position I have seen in a long time on a Bears roster.

Don't need to waste that 1st round pick on a QB now. You still need receivers and a right guard, since Long can't play more than two games in a row without getting hurt.

Yeah. You're an idiot.
