At least he doesn't smell like peanut butter or pork rinds. At least I hope not.

I defy you to listen to old B&B (pre-2010) and tell me that.

There was some GOLD in there.

Yeah, and it's all obscured for me now. I used to love WYC and their interactions with callers, but it's all a blur now.

I get that.

The YouTube clips have helped me remember the good of this show, but even those don't go all the way back.

It's a little strange for me as I missed B&B entirely while Mac was with MJH on WMVP. Even when they weren't head to head at the start. I guess I missed the better B&B?

True. But the first half of Bernstein's 17 years were different than the 2nd half. Once he gained total power and control of the station, the show got progressively worse from year 8 to now.

B&B was the primary reason I started listening to sports radio as well. I will say that I think MJH was often a better show, but B&B was always my first. I still enjoy the off-topic discussions the most. That said, as others have mentioned, they should have probably killed the show right when Dan did the Penn State thing. Honestly, I fully expected him to go national before that all had happened and I will be surprised if he doesn't do it now. I can't see how he will want to sit with another partner moving forward.

Ok. Fine. Why are you bragging? Doesn't matter to me where you do the shows. The hosts get paid by sponsors to do these remotes. Bud Light pays them for the "Tavern Tour". If you didn't get paid you wouldn't do them. So don't say "We're the show that goes to the people." No. You only do it cuz you get paid.

If they weren't good, nobody listens, no sponsors and no remotes. Doing 388 sponsored remotes is pretty impressive.

Budweiser has to spend that money somewhere. They aren't throwing it at an Eric and Kathy remote.

This girl understands.

They were only the best when they had no competition. Mac immediately began eroding listenership when he moved to 1000. Eventually he dominated them each and every month for years. This competition began with B and B having a huge advantage at the beginning and Scoreheads who previously would have never thought to change the station.

B and B popularity is a fraud. They are a niche show that has become the face of the station out of necessity rather than accomplishment.

Further, I can't even recall why I ever liked it because the more recent past overshadowed my affection for the earlier years.

not only that, it spawned an industry of mildly educated douches with delusions of superiority

When they were the midday show it was the best. Dan was not self-entitled. They did research and had fun little segments like Second Hand News. When they shifted to afternoons they got lazy. Never met about the show, Boers literally phoned it in. And Bernstein started to think he was a star. He's a guy that needs a foot on his throat to do his best work, otherwise he becomes a self-indulgent ass.

That's fair.

I enjoyed the hell out of it, and that's when the show was at it's best.

The show reached its apex when Hood was producing. He really helped create a loose, free-associative and self-deprecating tone that has gradually eroded over the past ten years. Additionally, all of the characters and voices he contributed were often hilarious.

At some point the seemingly sincere self-deprecation turned into the type of phony self-deprecation that is so ubiquitous across social media platforms.

That is Rozner in a nut shell. He does the phony self deprecation all the time, which gets overshadowed by his annoying reminders like "you heard it here first". The non-stop I told you so's overrides the purpose of his constant self deprecation.

Prime B&B was better than Prime MJH. I never understood the draw of MJH. Harry makes nothing better.

I liked MJH better. Of course we all hated Harry, and yet the show was still fun. I enjoyed their parody stuff a lot. "When you pitch and you catch, that's Amore, gay Piazza."

The show was also hurt when Mike North left in that Bernstein was the guy who ran the station after that.

Agreed. Heavy Fuel Crew was the best show that the score ever produced. Chemistry between Boers and McNeil was better than B and B. Boer also didn't seem as angry as he does now. B&B was an OK show but it's ascendancy to top level is mostly due to the mediocrity that is other shows on sports radio.

Yeah. B&B were the alternative to North, Fred, Murph, and the rest. Remember when Mitch did that "Best of the Best" cross-promotion campaign where they'd play a Mike North "highlight," there'd be a long pause, and then a Borat "WHAAAAT?"

I'm John Feinstein was a nice throwback to that.

Loved HFC & The Monsters. Hell,I even enjoyed Tom Shaer in the early days.

Boers & Bernstein are the 2 funniest guys ever on the radio that I listened to BUT went downhill when Dan got too big for his elven boots.

That bothers me almost more than anything else Dan does. People are just trying to be polite. Don't be an asshole because they are exchanging pleasantries. We have a society to maintain people!!!
