Morally I think he crossed the line but feel he had legal standing to meet force with force given her escalation. Does he have to wait for her to claw at his face with nails before he responds.

I think MANY who are ripping him feel more comfortable saying that you can never hit a woman without thinking of the actual emotions of the human beings involved. He was probably drunk. She was drunk. She punches him in the face... and people are acting like he's Satan because he struck back. Should he have hit her that hard? No... but don't act like it makes him an evil person. This is not a typical situation involving a man striking a woman.

Also, has anyone here actually been punched? I would have to assume Rick has. Getting hit in the face hurts no matter who is doing it. Getting smacked in the face is stunning and leaves your ears ringing. Instincts kick in.

I've been punched a few times. I never hit back. There was no need. I would have destroyed the one guy and the other was during a high school basketball game.

Man I never knew how amazing it was that I'm 42 and never got in a fight. Maybe it's because I'm not a psycho.

What do you tell your children to do when someone hits them or snatches something from them? Hit them back? Turn the other cheek? Let the kid take your things and find something else to play with?

What you should be teaching your children is if somebody hits you, then you hit them back.

If somebody snatches something, you snatch it back... That is unless you want your children to grow up being perpetually pushed around and have no self confidence.

The first time was in middle school by a kid who was mad I didn't pass him the ball enough in gym class. In the locker room he got me after I put my shirt on.

The second time was a high school basketball game where the guy had been kicked out of the game for technicals received in large part because of frustration with me. The game was pretty physical and he didn't like that I was making him look silly and then letting him know about it in a way that wouldn't get me technicals. Towards the end of the game, a teammate and an opposing player got in a stare down, I went over to back him up, and the guy came off the bench and connected with a punch and then I laughed at him as he was dragged off the court. In that case it was lucky I didn't do anything stupid as he and I both would have had our seasons ended if I had instead of just him.

Don't get me wrong here either. I don't consider myself a bad ass or a tough guy. In another situation I may have hit back. I just didn't feel threatened in either case. I doubt that Mixon honestly thought he was in danger even with his fake story of severe pain from the hit that he never even went to the hospital for!
