Just read about this in USA Today. The article claimed the shooter shouted, "God is great!" Of course, we all know that he most certainly did not shout that. It is a translation of what he actually shouted. To what end such a translation is appropriate, I'm not sure. Great unbiased reporting!

The actual video of the shooting was like something out of a movie. Everything there to see.

Yeah, very surreal. In that gallery with white walls and art. The still photos looked posed. It was like something out of a Tarantino film.

Perhaps, but I'm not sure which one presents the potential for greater long-term serious damage in the world ... and of course we won't know for sure for years if not decades.

I haven't seen the full vid ... does it show the Russian cat getting plugged or does it only start with pointy-finger-Turkman giving his planned oration?

It's not very graphic but it's sad to watch.

Turkey was considered a stable country, and is a US ally. There was a coup attempt a few months ago. If Russia turns it's cyber attacks on Turky and starts supporting the Turkish opposition, who knows what the Middle East will look like in a few months.

Don't you consider Russian "the West"? I guess it's ambiguous. Sort of like, is England part of Europe? or is Russia part of Europe? It depends on who you ask. I think we can agree that Russia is part of what we might call the "civilized world", where there is at least a base belief in science over religion. (Although I'm sure someone might suggest that in that case, Mississippi isn't part of the civilized world.) The U.S. and Russia do have many clear common interests regardless of how one might feel about Vladimir Putin or Donald Trump.

We need to get together as a country to nail down what 'graphic' should actually mean. They showed worse stuff on 24 for crying out loud. At least 1/3 of that was the guy really laying into the rigmarole speech about it being disturbing and graphic ... well, to some maybe.

What really caught my eye was the fact that the poor bastard that was on the business end ended up croaking on the floor with his tie apparently doing a half-Dilbert. Also, if you didn't know it already, then from that video you learned that an art gallery or other open space lacking soft surfaces is a terrible choice, acoustically speaking, to scream your manifesto at.

The precedents of executive overreach is really going to come back to haunt this country. With the wild card Trump in charge, you've upset the balance of power between Congress, the states, and the Executive branch. It'd been moving that way for years as Bush was pretty expansive in his view of Prerogative, but Obama has taken it up several notches. The courts have stopped him in many places, so that may prevent Trump from going too far.
