I wasn't expecting what I already knew...and suspected would happen. If that makes any sense.
While I really enjoyed it, I'm feeling kinda empty and sad about the scenes on Scarif, Eadu, & Yavin4. A lot darker and dirty like WZ mentioned. Reminded me of Empire.

I can't get the hallway sequence with Vader out of my head. That was AWESOME!

Tarkin was cool. The last CGI was a little creepy.

I found it a slow start because so many new characters and places were introduced. I thought the ending made the movie, meaning the way it lined up exactly with A New Hope.

The lack of much Jedi action made it pretty far afield from all the overs.

OK for a 6-7 year old? He enjoyed Force Awakens but I've heard this one is a lot different.

Eh, I wouldn't think it'd be great for that age. Despite them all being called "Star Wars" this was a real "war movie." Which is actually one of the things that elevates it in ways that other movies in the franchise can't or won't go. I mean the Vader scene isn't graphic in a body parts flying everywhere way, but it's graphic in a holy shit are these people fucked kind of way and their expressions show that.

Even at age 6, your kid should know that if you are trapped in a hallway with an angry Vader, you sure as fuck had better have a high Midichlorian Count or you're pretty much sabertoast.

That's a life lesson if I ever heard one, Son!

SPOILER ALERT: DO NOT READ UNLESS YOU HAVE SEEN MOVIE!

It is funny, but I experienced the EXACT OPPOSITE conclusion of the author of this piece regarding the CGI "return" of certain SW characters.

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-v ... iar-957178

In my opinion, GM Tarkin was done flawlessly. Only a few quick instances lent any "uncanny valley"-ishness, and it was not enough to blow any disbelief.

Ms. Organa, however, I found to look completely "uncanny valley". Something about her chubby cheeks did not sit, move, or take light/shadows naturally - and this was from nothing more than a second or two of view.

They did an EXCELLENT job on Cushing, but should have spent more time getting Leia right, IMO.

Tarkin was certainly better than Leia, but was still noticeable. Leia was too shiny. Tarkin was fine when he just stood around and talked, but when he walked around it looked worse.

But it had to be that way ... there had to be a reason you'd never heard of these folks before, and so they had to go.

First thing I did when I got home a bit ago was look it up to see if it was him. Inneresting to see a glimpse of him not just sitting around in his little "hut" or whatever but hanging in (I presume) a bacta tank w/out the suit.

I thought it was pretty good ... and it ended damned near how that rumor indicated.

I think the final CGI person was more jarring b/c Tarkin already had an aged, beat-up look to him so imperfections could be used to mask what would otherwise seem to be imperfections. They could've, however not had such a close-up of said final CGI person, but again it was really pretty good, even enjoyable.

What was perhaps most enjoyable is that, aside from building that bridge at the end to ANH, there really wasn't anything that had to be done or said in deference to established canon, so it was more like seeing the first movie again for the first time b/c you really had no clue who 95% of the characters were so they could do or be anything. Ep 7 could've done that too but I very much enjoyed it being a tribute in many ways to the first movie ... I suspect Ep 8 should feel more like Rogue One from a storytelling aspect.

That one rebel General or whatever looked a bit too much like Kelsey Grammer for it not to be distracting to me.

The psuedo-Jedi's 'protector' had a hint of Marvel's Bishop to him, I thought anyway.

Loved both Red and Gold Leader being present ... not to mention whoever Red 5 was getting shot down, leaving it open for Luke to take over in ANH.

I found myself wishing that they rewarded that guy's faith in the force with some form of minor fantastic display of force powers. Like, I was hoping they would say that he didn't have anywhere near as high a Midi-chlorian count to be a Jedi, but he still had some. . . or maybe that all beings have some that they can tune and/or channel.

That would have been cool, and would not have disrupted the continuum, as it would have went out the door with him.

Seeing Vadar be a bad ass like that at the end was exactly what I was hoping for. That and the fact that the very next scene could easily be the opening scene in the original Star Wars was awesome.

Loved the movie.

Just saw it tonight with the kids. IMAX 3D. It was thoroughly entertaining for me. I thought it was done very well as far as making it standalone and tying in a few things good balance. I had no problems with CGI at all. And yes KDittit JEJ seemsed a touch off.

I'll have to see it again. I was a bit lost or distracted when the director went to Mustafar to see Vader. I didn't quite follow what went on there exactly.

It was good to enjoy the second half of a movie more than the first half for the first time in a very long while.

I have no idea where the last movie with Luke at the end fits into this thing.

Pretty interested into what this looked like before the reshoots, although based on interviews and things it pretty easy to at least piece together. Take the first teaser trailer and how much of it never even shows up in the movie. Jyn's "I rebel" and Saw's "what will they do when they catch you..." It shows Jyn in the battle with the AT-ATs on the ground on Scarif. Seems like one of the reasons Jyn's character was kinda bland was that originally she was with Saw on Jeddah the whole time doing "resistance" stuff but Disney didn't want the main character blowing up occupying force's convoys on a desert planet. So they changed it to him abandoning her.

Obviously I can see why Disney didn't want that, but the writers and director were certainly trying to say something with the original plan. Like the movie certainly was trying to show some shades of gray in a pretty black and white franchise with Cassian killing his informant and all the rebels talking about all the bad things they're had to do, but it got cut off at the knees.

A Force Awakens happens roughly 25-30 years after Rogue One ends.

Just back and yeah this is way dark. It is not the normal good guy vs bad guy Star Wars movie. It was cool all the nods to the universe but the violence was kind of shocking. I was not expecting the level of normal Hollywood style action violence in a Star Wars movie. Plus, the shades of grey that the Rebel guys operate in in this movie is not like anything I have seen or read before in any Star Wars official stuff, that includes the expanded universe novels, comics etc. The Vader scene though made the movie, the expressions on the Rebel guys faces where utter horror. All the character where pretty well written and defined. Even the pilot, it showed hoow they all decided to take a stand even though they knew what it meant. I too was hoping that the blind guys protector would go out a little differant, like the force would flow into him and help him last a little longer.

I took him the other day. I don't know if he liked it that much until the end. We walked out and he just said "A lot of people got killed in that movie huh?"

The Vader hallway scene was his favorite. Probably because it was the only time a lightsaber made an appearance.

When they needed to flip that switch I was really hoping that he was going to be able to use the force for it.

I'm not sure if everyone knew this but me, but I liked the way that the "fatal flaw" in the Death Star was revealed to be purposely placed. I know a lot of people (including the Phineas and Ferb Star Wars tribute) make fun of the fact that the Empire built this awesome machine of destruction, only to leave an easy way for it to be destroyed by just one well-placed bomb.

Rogue One reveals that the the designer intentionally hid that flaw with the ultimate goal of having his daughter destroy his creation.

My kids and I talked about this movie for a solid hour after we left the theater--attempting to tie all of the pieces together. Very well done.

Not really, I didn't like the introduction of some disgruntled employee placing the flaw in Death Star. It worked out better for me that it was just hubris on the Empire's part to overlook it. With Rogue One the Empire knows they have Erso leaking info, info important enough for the rebellion to risk 1/2 of their fleet to beam some data off of Scarif, and important enough for Vader himself to fly out from Mustifar to take care of it. So in A New Hope the Empire has to know something's up with the Death Star but hasn't bothered to do anything about it. The Empire isn't portrayed as stupid so it doesn't make any sense for them to ignore it. It makes Tarkin look even dumber in ANH when someone tells him that they've analyzed the rebels attack pattern and there is a danger. Now we know Tarkin knew about Erso leaking that there's a flaw and he doesn't bother to evacuate. Before Rogue One we can easily chalk that up to hubris, but after R1 it just makes a good villain look like an idiot.

Speaking of villains I did love that main villain was some poor schmuck middle manager whose main motivation was to stop his jerk bosses from taking all the credit for his work.
