Nas, I appreciate that you always mention that these are regressive taxes. I think that sometimes gets lost in these conversations.

Walmart is the worse for that shit.I always bring my own when I go there otherwise I am leaving with 50 bags each with 2 items in them.

The answer is that we already do things far more harmful to the environment in the name of convenience. You aren't going to the save the environment by banning plastic bags. All you're going to do is make it more inconvenient for working class people while still not putting even a small dent in the damage our collective lifestyle does to the environment.

Your stance is that it's like pissing on a fire, right? That's how I view it too.
Most change is incremental though. Based on the science, plastic bags at the point of checkout are a huge part of our environmental damage including filling our lakes and rivers with plastic. The ironic part is that FavreFan seemed to fully support the protesters who were against the pipeline because it could potentially contaminate a water source but not this.

Well, FF's dumb. Didn't know that was news.

I'm not arguing about specific car models. I'm saying that many SUV's get comparable or superior MPG's to sedans and other types of cars. Now, if we want to talk about fuel efficiency standards that all cars must abide but then I'm fully supportive of something like that, and you know what, they have those!

I'm so confused by your rules. I guess we shouldn't worry about actual pollution of waterways in huge population centers but lets worry about potential pollution of waterways where very few people live!

Of course they have them, but I don't understand why you find that funny. It's not a Gotcha! We aren't talking about regulating how plastic bags are made. We are talking about banning them because paper bags are more inconvenient but environmentally friendly. The same argument can easily apply t cars or a thousand other products. You just don't have a good answer for that, which is evidenced by your multiple responses that haven't come close to countering the point.

Pandering? Either you don't know what that means, or you think there's much more at stake in this silly debate than there actually is. I'm a working class guy and I think of things through that lens. Feel free to argue this point with Nas, Peeps, or leash though as they essentially said the same thing.

I explained this in the other thread but Obtuse Rick always needs to hear things more than once. Natives don't live the same way the rest of us do, by choice. The rest of us gave a fat middle finger to the environment long ago and never looked back. I tend to take their views on the environment more seriously than I do a guy who doesn't seem particularly concerned about the environment except in the most trivial of cases, like this one.

The bold text is correct. However, the parallel would be banning all cars though and we have to come up with the idea if the cost worth the benefit. As I've pointed out and you don't seem to be understanding or acknowledging, many SUV's are as good or better for the environment as normal cars. I actually sold my normal car, bought an SUV, and got improved gas mileage.

The parallel isn't banning all cars. I'm not sure how you don't get this as I have explained it. You aren't talking about banning all bags. You are talking about taking a product we all use for convenience, grocery bags, and banning the ones most harmful to the environment. To make my analogy even simpler, why aren't Hummers banned? I'm sure your response will be that it gets better gas mileage than a Ford Focus, but it's the same point.

 What has given you the opinion that I'm not concerned about the environment? I believe the only things I've ever really said was that Carbon taxes are stupid and that if protesters are going to worry about potential water contamination issues they should be worried about much more than some pipeline near a reservation.

Leash gaining pleasure from the posting battles of others seems to be an emerging trend. I have noted that he interjects short posts to help catalize the discussion. On this page he commends FF, while later questioning his intelligence. It is at these moments where Leash is smiling broadly.

Once again, the problem with your statement is that SUV's are not necessarily worse than other types of cars.

Well, Hummers will effectively be banned soon but they aren't produced any more anyways. I'm fine with that too. The fuel efficiency numbers are going way up soon. Most of the cars we drive now probably would not qualify by 2025 if not sooner. Trump may change that though but hopefully not.

It's almost always said as a way to portray the person on the other side as some sort of poor hating elitist who doesn't care that the every day man will have to live in a world of bags ripping when he walks home with them in the rain.

There's too much co2 in the atmosphere.
We should ban beer, and fire extinguishers, and bricks breathing to reduce co2 emissions.
