Dan is flying solo today, which is music to our ears. Now he can shower us with his wisdom and trademarked "deeper understanding" of sports and news without being interrupted by mouth breathers like Abbatacola or clowns like Rongey. I'm just glad we got to meet him last week and understand his genius prior to this glorious day so that we can appreciate today's show even more.

I never thought I'd top the birth of my child, but I may have to rethink that after today. God is good.

The part that gets me is that if the guy did say "yeah, I was doing a bit," what would Dan say back? "Oh, good bit, really had me going, you should fine-tune that one a little"?

Who are we to try to predict how the sharp mind of Dan Bernstein would respond?

I'm not going to start a thread for this, but Joe O is on with Cowley and his linguistic skills and enunciation are on par with college radio. I'm confident in saying I would be better than Joe O at radio. This is brutal.

Pretty sure it is Shepkowski with Cowley today, but your comments still apply.

could be...I don't know either of them but I thought Cowley was referring to him as Joe O.

Yeah, the guy on is bad, but come on... I've heard your calls to the station.

Why in the blue hell is it apparently so g-damned hard to hire competent people into a business wherein their primary, and possibly sole, function is to speak their native language into a microphone without sounding like you just got in from Romania on a cattle boat last week?

It's perhaps most galling when listening to 780 ... I mean, of all places to hire superlative speakers, I'd think that'd be the station to be most innerested in doing so.

hey now!

I love Cowley, but this pairing is just terrible...this guy isn't going to be good even on a chime in basis. I'm sorry...a lot of people don't succeed in radio...

There are a surprising number of people on 780 who frequently stumble and say "um..." a lot. Regine Schlesinger usually sounds like she's suffering through bouts of severe intestinal discomfort while she's reading, Julie Kronos (sp?) has vocal fry, and Josh Liss (sp?), who does sports, inhales VERY loudly before the start of each sentence. Very odd.

The more I've heard Cowley, the warmer I am to him replacing Terry. He's not nearly as jag baggy as I expected.

Also, aren't we supposed to masturbate to solo Dan, per Matt?

Yeah, the bouts with cancer have really mellowed him out. When he was covering the Sox, he was certainly the jag bag you expected.

I also love his willingness to absolutely torch the Bulls.

Cowly couldn't do it. He lives in Minnesota. He's just on the road all the time covering the Bulls. His wife and kids are in Minnesota all year. Which is weird. But that's how he wants it.

You'd think he could get a job a Minnesota paper.

I don't know if we'resupposed to, but I've certainly had my needs met a few times within the last hour.

The number of this guy's sources are impressive. Just another great thing about him.

Listening to the last half hour or so it's become clear that Dan has taken several steps backward as a solo host since the days before B&B. He used to be a personable and engaging solo host but now frequently interrupts callers and generally acts like a snippy bitch who'd rather be doing anything besides hosting a call in show.

He's sounding more and more like the terrible national hosts on C-B-S Sports Ra-di-o whose actual names I don't know but insist on going by initials as if they're household names.

Disappointing that he stopped caring.

Yeah wasn't there a time he would fill in solo every once in a while on Dan Patrick's show? He's back on the Not Ready for Primetime Player list.

Maybe on the air he's just doing a bit or more likely an exaggerated version of his real safe a la Larry David

Dan's been sounding very paternalistic the last few days with these younger dudes. Now that B.Oers is out of the picture he must feel the need to become everyone's rabbi. He's also gone full Leary with his recollections of daily interactions and mundane activities.
