thinly veiled mockery of theism in general

I thought the movie was OK. It kept my interest when I had no interest walking in.

A lot of climbing up tall buildings, I'd imagine.

I mean, the history of movies based on video games would suggest so, but Fassbender and Cotillard gave me hope...

It has some interesting sci fi topics like whether there is some kind of memory embedded in our DNA and our links to our ancestors. However, going back 600 years, isn't some large percentage of the European population related to Charlemagne? Everyone has a few notable ancestors if you go back far enough but we all also have a lot of peasants whose greatest accomplishment was to reproduce.

Oh...it seems as if you came into this fresh. In that case, the story and theme may seem interesting. It did for me in 2007 as well. I'm just tired of it / jaded since the series has been brutal recently.

I don't understand why Dolphin would willingly see this movie. GD, just admit you saw this by mistake somehow, like you either walked into the wrong theater or you thought this was movie was about something totally different. At the very least, you had no idea this was a movie about a video game?

Pretty obvious that GD likes to masturbate in empty theaters. Just happened to stay for the movie.

I went with my kids who are on Christmas break. I know the game exists but never have watched it played. Most movies I watch are not by my choice

I've never seen the video game but I'd check the movie out, it look decent.

"Tomb Raider" wasn't that bad. The first "Resident Evil" was...not great. but not an abomination.

the biggest mistake many of them make is that they forget that they're adapting an interactive medium. it doesn't seem like it should be that hard but they can't get it right most of the time.

If not they should.

I'm guessing this is part of what you are saying with it being an interactive medium, but it doesn't help that most of these are based on games that have something barely resembling the shambling corpse of a plot to begin with.

I think Mortal Kombat got it right because they took what little story is in that game, ran with it, and filled the rest of the movie with fighting...total fan service...not a good movie in the traditional sense, but it worked for the target audience.

All this being said, I'd think if something like Uncharted or The Last of Us got adapted for film and some of the people at Naughty Dog were involved in the process, it could actually be a good film.

agreed on "Mortal Kombat". it was fan service but it was well made. even siskel & ebert saw that.

you're right that many games that are adapted into movies didn't have a plot to begin with. but if you have a creative writer, that shouldn't be a problem.

i had heard that "Bioshock" was going to be made into a film. I actually think it would make a brilliant series if made correctly.

Wing Commander was the best game movie. Everyone quotes that movie all the time. "You can be my wing commander anytime". "Bullshit you can be mine"

That movie has my favorite Nirvana song in it, called "Nevermind". That was my anthem growing up when he said "Yeah yeah yeah" all the time. The best.
