Bernsie in a three way booth would never work. He needs too much space.

at its zenith with Jason, the show essentially was a three man booth. Periodically a four man booth.

Bernsie's head is bigger now.

I think this new show will probably be a good challenge for him. I also wonder if he will see the sincere admiration many had for Boers and wonder if he can one day have a similar impact. Probably not though.

Bernstein will be remembered as one of the two or three most influential personalities in the history of Chicago sports talk, but he will never be loved.

And Chet.

He has to be behind Chet, North, and Mac at the least.

Yes, I think Chet has to be there.

Thinking about it more, maybe Terry is not on the Mt. Rushmore.

I think Swirsky has to be on there. His show, though now largely forgotten, was the first real call-in sports show I remember in Chicago. In fact, Bruce Wolf's "Chet Chit-Chat" probably owes more to Swirsky than to Chet.

I don't want to have to listen to Goff on my drive home from work...almost anyone other than Goff would be fine to me...

Good news - you don't 'have to' listen to anything you don't want to!

I don't remember Swirsky's show lasting that long, though. Wasn't it just a few years in the mid/late-80s?

Maybe it didn't even last a few years and I think it was very late seventies/early eighties. I was in high school.

  good behavior?! You think they would literally stop screening calls for a day to "impress" a creepy sports board guy? You guys are out of your minds. They don't drop callers because they would make good points. That's way more work than they pay call screeners to do.

You really are something. Your "point" may well be true. But you know basically nothing more than anyone other long time listeners around here. You always do this kind of crap. You build up your own importance like you are someone in the know. You talked to the boys at a remote....you call the show once in awhile....you worked at the show for a day. So we should listen to you. You do the samething with the Cubs and you did the same thing with the election. Listen to me boys I got it figured out.

You don't know diddly squat about the Cubs, you did not know diddly squat about the election and you don't know diddly squat about how the B&B show works. I am pretty sure spmack sat in the studio for a day as well...but you dont hear him going off about how he knows more than anyone else. Calling the show once in awhile and being in studio for a day does not make you anything special.

Oh for someone from Sycamore to make fun of where anyone else lives is hilarious

The Jauss/Gleason battles are what made that show. If one of those guys were off, the show wasn't even really worth listening to.

I liked Van Dyck but Boers didn't really even register to me at that time and that was when Telander was the cool, young dude. I'm old.

it's a bit, they let they stupid people through so Bernstein can mock them and everyone has a big laugh

I'm sure they get excited when an idiot calls but I don't think they are giving IQ tests to the callers as they have many callers who do make good points.

i don't think they're giving IQ tests and yes many do actually have valid points, not saying they exclusively let on dumb people. i'm just saying whereas on other shows a dumb person may get screened out, they are intentionally letting those people through

My old man always liked Gleason. They were both in the 103d Division during WWII and they sat together at a reunion one time and talked White Sox all night. I'm sure my mother was rolling her eyes.

I was torn on Gleason because he was a Sox fan but he hated Dahl who was my guy at the time. I always thought Jauss came off like an Alzheimer's patient. Telander liked to complain about the cigar smoke.

I missed on predicting the Cubs to my joy, missed on Trump to my horror. That has nothing to do with the show. I have no idea why you're so angry...you agree with my point, and I countered Bagels and rather than stating my opinion, I stated my middling one day experience, not to point out my superiority or what have you but rather to lend some basic credence to my point. And yes, I've met a lot of the guys a lot of the time...that doesn't make me special, it just makes me better at taking a day off work or organizing an event that radio guys show up to. I can tell anyone authoritatively that they don't drop callers because they think they're intelligent.

Yes, mack has sat in on the show too, and he will tell you the same thing. In fact I think he sat in for more than one day. And he has talked about that time before because it IS special to do that, although as I said, back in the day they'd let anyone in there.

And my mother says I'm special. So there.

ok, now that IS true. But they aren't screening out callers. They do push bad callers to the front periodically, I'll agree with that.

I think it's known, just not to me apparently ... why the hell don't they show reruns of that show? I thought it was in the plans at some sort-of 'recent' time but then the ass dropped out of it for whatever reason.

There's a few episodes on YouTube which is great despite the meager amount.

Nobody wants to listen to an intelligent conversation. That's why this board is so popular.

But determining call order based on perceived stupidity is a form of screening since people will often drop off if they are forced to wait more than a few minutes....

I used to love the SW on TV until it started to bother me how they all looked at each other glowingly, like it was a secret homo club.

Gleason never looked at anyone glowingly. He always looked like he was trying to pass a kidney stone.

JORR,
Where did a Joel Musho fit in or that lawyer Sports guy who's name I forgot?

I think Mooshil came later, but I don't remember for sure. Maybe he started filling in when one of the others was missing?

I used to love the SW on TV until it started to bother me how they all looked at each other glowingly, like it was a secret homo club.

Gleason never looked at anyone glowingly. He always looked like he was trying to pass a kidney stone.

Pasta might be right about the secret homo stuff, though. How else could we get to "David Anderson is BIGGER than Michael Jordan" if that weren't the case?
