He was comfortable defining a whole bunch of people he doesn't know as racist because they casted a vote he didn't like a few months ago, but isn't comfortable calling people in his own words, involved in a racially motivated attack, racist. That doesn't make sense. I think he's wrong and I also think it's a bad look.

Next time one of these stories pops up but it's the opposite it wouldn't be well received if anybody denied racism and just said no it was wrong and hateful but there is no racial problems in this country.

He's not saying that and your thoughts are complete bullshit. Nothing that LTG has posted has in anyway said their actions were okay. His definition of racism doesn't change that. JORR has a similar definition of racism and I haven't seen you attack him yet. Get the fuck out of here with bullshit accusations like this. I'm confident that you rightly wouldn't appreciate being called a racist or a racist sympathizer.

Wait, if racism is only macro-level, how can a single person be racist?

I will provide 2 examples and then I am done. I'm sure you probably won't view it the same way but I will have a go anyway.

U of I basketball has never had a black head coach. Do you think it is due to no blacks being qualified or racism?

2. Do you think the rap music would be aired on radio stations if it spoke of murdering and sexing white people and women instead of blacks?

Hold on there buddy. Rap music talks about sexing everybody, and it's on the radio.

No qualified black basketball coach would lower themselves to work for UofI.

A whole bunch of people had no problem with voting for a racist either. For me to suggest that racism fueled his campaign wasn't much of a stretch and if you follow this MANY have levied similar charges. It wasn't simply black people either.

I never said all either but what I find interesting is that MANY on here have no problem taking liberties whenever it serves their purpose. For the record I think about 25 to 30 percent of the people that voted for Trump were racist.

The fact that the vast if not all of the avowed racist org. in this country supported him isn't a coincidence either. You and other apologists on here have no problem with ignoring this simple truth either.

They did and that was only after receiving a lot of pressure. At least they attempted to correct it.

If they'd had a black administration in place over the past 100 yrs do you think this would have been the case?

Racial violence and racism aren't the same thing.

You seem to be suggesting that someone is excusing this crime which isn't the case. I'm not particularly interested in what motivated these goofs.

Words do have meanings. Of course, sometimes those meanings change, e.g. gay.

I don't think simply hating white people is racism just as I don't think grabbing a girl's ass is rape, though many people are pushing those definitions.

Because it is the way racism is typically viewed. To view racism purely on an individualized level cheapens it and attempts to absolve those that benefit from it from ever having to discuss it.

Can they perpetuate racism? No. Lack the power.

Who views racism purely as an individual action? Why do we have the phrase "institutionalized racism" and teach the evils of Jim Crow laws in school if nobody wants to talk about or has to discuss racism writ large?

What she seems to be getting at without just coming out and saying it is that the hate categorizing is not equal. It is pretty clear that she knows that no one is excusing these people's crime. She also makes very clear that if 4 white dudes in Oak Lawn pound the fuck out of a Black guy (that beat them on some bad business deal as an example) there will be no motive analysis and nothing but instant hate categorization here as well as across media.

I don't think you guys are excusing the crime I think your excusing the people who committed it from being racists, I'm saying they are. The evidence I have for that is in the video there heard saying fuck white people. I'm going to guess they don't like white people based on the color of their skin. That's racist.

If I searched the family history I could find instances in which racism was beneficial. It doesn't mean that they were racist either. It just means that the system of racism was beneficial.

Let me provide yet another example.

Didn't receive a lot of play nor was it viewed through a particularly racist lens. Trump's tweet regarding murder rate in Chicago at record levels. First of all it was factually incorrect by a wide margin. Secondly he stated that federal troops may need to be called in if it persists.

Do you really think that he would have found the need to call in federal troops if whites were the prime perpetrators of the violence?

Federal troops would have orders of shooting to kill by the way. Imposition of martial law also. Is it necessary? I don't know to be honest. Seems a little extreme to me.

Because whenever it is mentioned in conjunction with today's world it tends to be minimized. Society has improved since Jim Crow but it isn't close to be eradicated. Anytime a person can spout the sort of racist opinions that Trump spouts and still be elected President I'm comfortable with this assessment.

Anytime he can appoint people with known racist views and the outcry be minimal I'm comfortable with that assessment. It doesn't mean that the people that ignore it are racist either. It just means that racism affects people differently. Some are not affected by it at all. It impacts differently thus we tend to feel differently about it. It doesn't make anyone necessarily a bad person either.

Like, seeing a behavioral mod therapist?

Regardless, you don't do things like this without having some issues somewhere. The kidnapping and what followed may have been racially/developmentally driven, but even that kind of hate is the product of a deeper issue.

He actually was once a cop and openly discussed how he used to target black people for the purpose of keeping them out of town. Thanks for playing.

Let me put it this way, do you really believe that those four nitwits, regardless of the motivations behind their evil deeds, actually think they were in some way superior to the guy they attacked based on the colors or their skin and his? If so, what basis for such a thought is there in our society?

Look, I don't hate myself. I'm not some fucking beta college boy virtue signalling and trying to be an "ally" to people who have nothing but disdain for me. And I certainly don't feel guilty for the fact that slavery existed. It had nothing to do with me. But that doesn't mean I have to ignore the effects from it that are still clearly felt to this day.

There's been exactly one good point made in this discussion regarding the promotion of the idea that black people are incapable of being racist within the existing structure of America (an idea I obviously believe to be true):

Defining the term "racism" to only include macro-level race-based discrimination seems needlessly arbitrary to me. The only goal I can see is that such a definition conveniently precludes one race from the dreaded "racist" moniker, and instantly anoints said race the winner of the Oppression Olympics. What else could be the goal, here?

I do believe that for many people that is the endgame for such philosophy. And I think that misses the point entirely.

But back to the four cretins in the case we are discussing, I would submit that their actions are based in their lack of power. And no, that does not excuse them.

I think Steve has made it pretty clear he feels he is superior to black people based on nothing other than the respective shades of his skin and theirs.

What power does he have to deny people things?

He actually was once a cop and openly discussed how he used to target black people for the purpose of keeping them out of town. Thanks for playing.

 Never heard that.

Thanks Jorr for having a open mind about this issue. The false equivalencies never cease to amaze either.

When people refer to racial profiling they are referring to whites?

What about voter suppression?

How about stop and frisk?

I will provide 2 examples and then I am done. I'm sure you probably won't view it the same way but I will have a go anyway.

U of I basketball has never had a black head coach. Do you think it is due to no blacks being qualified or racism?

2. Do you think the rap music would be aired on radio stations if it spoke of murdering and sexing white people and women instead of blacks?

Will you please now answer my question about why you want to define racism in the way you do? What is the end-result you desire?

Because it is the way racism is typically viewed. To view racism purely on an individualized level cheapens it and attempts to absolve those that benefit from it from ever having to discuss it.

Can they perpetuate racism? No. Lack the power.

Who "benefits from it"? Are white kids born to well of families guilty of the original sin of racism?

I don't think the Trump tweet was racist. It was more of his typical bullying of his enemies. Chicago is a democratic stronghold run by Rahm Emanuel, so I see this as more as partisan. And calling in federal troops is a power the President has. Not to say that Trump isn't racist, just not seeing it here. Also, don't think they would care if a lot of whites were dying or killing if they were not affluent. See the opiate epidemic.
