That is because he hadn't worked with Spiegel in years.

What exactly would Bernstein and Abbattacola need to practice for? They did a 5 hour show together this week.

Go back and read my post I address Drink/Bernsie/Tannehill.

FWIW, I don't think Abbatacola will be the guy unless Goff is also brought in. Goff and drinky combined won't make in salary what the Score has been paying Terry for the past decade.

Ultimately, though, I don't think drinky will be part of the afternoon show (at least as a co-host) going forward

Unless it is an out of nowhere hire they already have done a bunch of shows together.

I guess if it is Bernstein and Bill Simionson they would have to but I would say with almost certainty that we have already heard the new show.

If we have already heard the new show, Mitch needs to find another new show.

Seriously, why would you hire a career producer like drinky--who's now about 45 years old and has never had a full-time hosting gig--to partner with the station's premier talent? The only reason for doing so would be budgetary since Matt will come cheap. He would have been a better fit with Mac, however, and Mitch bypassed him in favor of Spiegel. Why would Mitch now give drinky a better job when he hasn't developed his on-air skills over the past several years seemingly because Mitch hasn't wanted him on the air?

What does Matt bring to a show other than it being his turn? You can't say he's a populist of the North/Mac/Murph vein anymore because he's been Bernstein's sideman for 15 years. He's not particularly clever or funny, he doesn't really have any great insights on sports. He "challenges Dan" but even that's just a bit because it's usually just the "Dan, Dan, Dan, ahhhhhh, what about Magowan, Dan, ahhhh, Dan, Dan, Dan" stuff. Basically he would be a human being that Dan can talk to, or at. Jason managed to cultivate a likable personality much better than Matt did.

drinky would bring humor, caring, morality, levity, and drunkenness.

The longer it goes for an announcement means the greater likelihood that it is someone from the outside

If we can be serious for a moment, drinky is absolutely horrific at radio.

Maybe that he wasted years of his life on dope, and then lazily was second banana on a morning show that required him to talk about 10 mins per day.

We may be overlooking this, but we know Spiegel to be incredibly snide about stuff that bothers him, and 3 (4 counting any new guy) different co-hosts in less than 4 years would probably piss him off. So if it were true that Goff is getting the nod to host with his radio dad, it would probably be something Spiegs would passive-aggressively remark on while on the air. His sneers have concerned Mannelly getting a roast, his contempt for Bernstein's unnamed sources, and McNeil ditching his show duties constantly.

Drinky is insufferable, smug and wholly unlikeable. If he gets the gig I will take my ears elsewhere. His stints on the afternoon show ,including today with Rosie, activated my gag reflex. His "too cool for the room" demeanor is aggravating and all his attempts at humor are lame. I will listen to anyone paired with Dan except Drinky or Holmes.

I've said it before on several occasions, but now more than ever, this is going to be like when Sideshow Bob took over the Krusty show and made it a thoughtful discussion of issues and feelings.

Yes. That's what he is. Never graduated from that "Too cool" for everybody high school punk attitude. His humor is actually 5th grade humor, though. I wish he had high school humor.
