Meryl Streep has to lead the league in combined Globe and Oscar nominations. If for no other reason, she gets offered great parts more than any other women. Where as the men split up the great parts.

Not taking anything away from her, she's good, but she gets more good parts than the other actresses. Especially since she's past 40. They all go to her first for the 40+ roles. Now the 50+ roles.

They are now nominating her no matter how bad her movies are. She could not even try and she will get nominated. It's sort of a joke at this point. Obviously, she is a great actress, but that doesn't mean that every role she has is worth an award, which Hollywood seems to think.

True. I'll admit, I probably haven't seen 90% of the movies she's done over the last 15 years or so. So I don't know if she's good or bad. I saw Bridges of Maddison. I think that's the last one. She was good in that.

Maybe it just means there are no good roles for women in movies, so, by default, she gets nominated for everything cuz people know her.

A facebook theme yesterday I have been seeing is she hates Trump but gives standing ovations for Roman Polanski at a past Oscar show.

That's because Polanski showed a real commitment to fucking children whereas Trump merely talks about doing it.

She was a great actress earlier in her career, but I'm not so sure that's true any more. Ironically, she seems to have become more of an "overactor" even as her performances have garnered ever-higher levels of critical acclaim.

That's pretty common. Why is Pacino yelling at me?

 Yeah, I had him and Samuel Jackson in mind as I wrote that post.

It would take her more seriously if she had a valid criticism about one of his policies. This is kind of silly. We were hardly a country full of people living in utmost harmony and courtesy up until 11/9/16. Donald Trump is not the first president, or the first politician, to be a dick to someone.

I would take her more seriously if she didn't try to position herself and her well heeled friends as likely victims of Trump's reign of terror. Does anyone other than Hollywood actors and actresses view Hollywood actors and actresses as "outsiders"? And while it's a real tragedy that poor Meryl's heart was broken during the past year, perhaps it wasn't the best rhetorical strategy to place her feelings at the center of the current political tumult. Of course, to realize her tactical error, Streep would have had to flee from her narcissistic cocoon for a few minutes. But I'm sure doing so would have proven to be the real heartbreak for her. Fuck her and her melodramatic histrionics. What an asshole.

I heard she often brings that spinach dip in a hollowed out loaf of rye bread. That's always a crowd pleaser.

(incidentally. if you can find the animated version of this it's a 5 second clip where mel is rubbing his chin (using all his years of acting to make it look like OH I'M LEARNING NOW) vince vaughn doesn't even blink. it's suitably hilarious.)

seems to me its another pretty weak year for movies and their nominees....probably trying to drub up some viewers for the Oscars with a not so subtle "WHAT MIGHT THEY SAY NEXT?"
