What Obama said isn't in the same stratosphere as mocking an individual handicapped person.

To not make fun of a person with a physical disability.

Except he didn't mock the man's disability. That's a fake news story.

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2016/09 ... im-up.html

He mocked a reporter with a gesture he has used to mock many others including himself. Do you think a reporter should get special treatment because he has a disability? Are you an ableist?

The fake news is the monumental effort to get the world to think he didn't mock the guy, but I digress.

No he didn't. He made fun of himself. You're claiming that Obama or anyone else could have won if they ran like Trump?

So it's okay if I say, "I'm a retard"? Come on, man. Are you really that oblivious to your own obvious biases?

No but you definitely are. Now you claiming that Trump didn't mock the disabled guy but Obama did. Now you're claiming that Obama and anyone else could have run like Trump.

No. I thought it was but apparently JORR locked this side of himself in a closet and Donald Trump has empowered him to bring it out. Even when I disagreed I generally understood the point JORR was making but this is something entirely different.

He mocked a reporter who happened to have a handicap. He didn't mock his handicap. And the fact that the reporter is handicapped wasn't the reason Trump mocked him. You're spreading fake news, which is exactly the point.

I suppose it's easier to just go ad hominem when facts don't support your argument. There are many videos of Trump using that same gesture to mock non-handicapped people and even himself, but that doesn't fit the narrative you're promoting that Trump is the apex of evil.

It's a gesture that mocks people with handicaps. To pretend otherwise is blindness. We've all done it through elementary school and grown out of being childish. You call your friend a retard and wave your arms around. It doesn't matter that he's used it in other occasions. The gestures were inappropriate in those instances too!

Trumpets are really twisting themselves into knots to excuse poor behavior.

Not in the least. I absolutely believed he mocked him. I just want to see if there is a defense for his actions in this particular instance. This is but another in a long list of actions that are definitively Trump.

You're not interested in facts when it comes to Trump and you have proven that over and over.

It's not a gesture that denotes anything but a person who is flustered. The anti-Trump media spun it as something it wasn't and that clearly worked.

And I've never called my friend a retard and waved my arms around. Maybe you're the bad person, not Donald Trump.

He clearly mocked him. He just wasn't mocking his condition. He used the same exact gesture to illustrate Ted Cruz being flustered and even to illustrate himself on an occasion when he was flustered.

But your bias against Trump is causing you to embrace anything that paints him in a negative light. As if he was the only New Yorker who was outraged by the Central Park rape. I don't think it was Trump's fault they got the wrong guys. But I'm sure you can spin it so that it was.

What is it, in any of Trump's actions or words, that allows him the benefit of the doubt?

I'm not trolling. And I'm not a Trump supporter or a "trumpet" or whatever cute name Nas wants to use either. I think I'm a pretty fair guy.

There's a mountain of evidence in the form of videos that support the idea that Trump wasn't mocking the guy for his handicap. No one is interested. They want to believe something else.

I would ask, is there anyone here self-aware enough to acknowledge that he reflexively ascribes bad intentions to Trump?

I don't know what you mean exactly. Trump is one of a kind. Do I think it could have been someone else who did what Trump did, talked the same way? Probably. I don't know who that would be.

But you could say the same about anyone who runs. Trump wasn't going to win if he acted like Obama either.

Look, I think it's petty for the President of the United States to be concerned with this type of bullshit, but that's who this guy is. But he wasn't necessarily wrong in his feelings. It was pretty ironic that she ended her rant with, "When the powerful use their position to bully others, we all lose." What was she doing if not using her power to bully? These wealthy and powerful actors haven't figured out that people who have real everyday problems don't want to be lectured by those who live in Malibu mansions with a bunch of servants.

Here's the thing though. Why does Trump as POETUS even exist? Because he was a celebrity running his mouth about politics. Inconvenient but unavoidable fact. So the Trumpkins really should have no complaint here other than for the most part they have skin thinner than Chas and don't like other opinions.

I disagree with you there. Trump himself has thin skin, obviously, but I think we've seen post-election which supporters are really thin-skinned.

I think anyone who is objective can see that Trump is being covered differently and not in a positive way. The answer to that seems to be a dismissive, "Well, he is different" as if that's justification.

You don't strike me as an Establishment guy. I realize Establishment types have a prototype for who they would like as president, someone who has "experience", which I guess means having been a governor or a senator. Trump isn't the anti-Establishment guy you or I would have liked, but I think we should recognize that much of the heat he is taking is based on him not being a traditional candidate, not being a creature of the status quo. Having said that, of course he is often his own worst enemy. Why does the most powerful man in the world need to concern himself with the star of She-Devil?

I think anybody who is objective can acknowledge if the press had covered Trump the same way they covered the Hill Dawg he's not PEOTUS.

The special snowflakes on the left that need their safe room need to grow up, as do the Trumpkins who can't take any criticism and facts about him.

I know the board hates hypotheticals (when it goes against them at least), but riddle me this:

HRC wins, and it is likely that Putin released info about DJT to help influence voting
She names DWS and Jordan Hoffner as her Chiefs of Staff
She names Chelsea's husband as a senior advisor
She names DeRay and his vest as AG
She fills the Cabinet with Goldman execs and donors to the Clinton Foundation

Oh and she wants them all approved before the FBI and ethics reports are done.

Do you really think that would be met with the resounding "meh" and shrug we are currently seeing from Congress and the Right?

Reflexively?? The clown is a racist, bigoted Russian nesting doll filled with a vile, crude past that likely includes all kind of criminality. Including fraud, theft and pedophilia. It's not a reflex, it's a learned response

We don't know what is in his heart. We can only judge his actions and words. I personally respect what P.T. Barnum has pulled off but nothing he has done has earned him the benefit of the doubt. Maybe I would if it were 1 or 2 things but we're talking about dozens or hundreds.

Sure, every human being has biases. But you act like you're interacting with JulieDiCaro here. You're talking to guys like Nas, me, Reader, Matt, Kirkwood, Peeps, etc. Are you incinuating that out of all of us, you're the only one who can harness their bias and be objective? He deserves no benefit of the doubt in these matters. None. He is a scummy piece of shit, and yes, I would defend individual actions if they were unfairly ascribed. They're not. He was clearly and blatantly mocking a mentally handicapped person. Obama made an off-color remark without thinking that he probably regretted but wasn't half as offensive anyway.
