Does anyone else get a lot of pixelation on WGN games when there's a lot of movement in a wide shot? It looks like they're compressing the shit out of their video feed. How many sub-channels do they have?

Ok, 2 subs at 480i. If the 480 channels have an average bitrate of 3 Mbps (including audio), that's 7 Mbps of their available bandwidth devoted to non-prime content. They've got, what, 18 Mbps to play with? So an average bitrate of around 11 Mbps for 1080i. Ehhhhh.

There were lots of video problems in the prior broadcast. I expect that from CSN, but that was also on WGN. My video has been fine so far tonight.

I've got a 60-inch screen, so maybe I'm too close to it, but I'm seeing a lot of artifacting when there's lots of moving stuff on the screen, and now that I know they use only 11 Mbps to draw a 1080i image, I know that's what I'm seeing and not my TV perform like shit. 11Mbps might be OK for a 720p stream, but not 1080, even interlaced.

It doesn't take into effect how compressed the signal is/is not from the content provider.

I miss having a TV built in this millennium.

True, but I seem to remember reading the trucks can blast out video at 25+ Mbps. Could be wrong, though.

Yeah, they've been on a roll the last few games. Good to see Panik get some bounces his way again. They're turning out to be ideal third-liners. We have serious fourth-line problems, though.

Eager wasn't that bad, to tell the truth. He was mostly a meathead but had flashes of skill. Eager-Fraser-Kopecky was a good fourth line.
