Potentially interesting tidbit from the Larz CRM site.

http://chicagoradioandmedia.com/news/86 ... ld-tv-more

Brief Nutshell: Danny Parkins, afternoon host on KCSP/Kansas City is leaving his afternoon show this Friday. Grew up in Chicago, interned at 'MVP, has done part-time work at 670. Announced he is taking a new job at a bigger market and that it is the opportunity of a lifetime.

Listened to Parkins talk about his exit on the KCSP morning show today. He starts his new gig Monday. Getting married in two months so he will miss some days shortly into his new gig. His new gig has been in the works for a while but he has known the gig was his for a month. Is not allowed to announce where he is going but might be able to on his afternoon show today.

Parkins and Bernstein sounds like something you would want a doctor to look at.

btw: he's followed by just about all of the score and espn1000 staff on twitter.

I've heard that the new show will be called "The Double Ds"!

Mac Engel should get that job.

One would think the SCORE and Parkins would want to coordinate it to where they announce it at the same time.

I mean if Parkins is gonna announce it on his KC show then everybody gets it though twitter and the SCORE will have to be like ''Umm, yeah, Parkins is coming here."

Not that Mitch would think of this.

It's not the end of the world if this were to happen, but it's a little awkward to be scooped by the guy you hired, on his KC station, for the announcement.

If he's Bernstein's new partner, I imagine that Dan will have him on the show at some point tomorrow to make the announcement. Then Parkins can inform his legion of crazed fans about his new job.

From a columnist's story at https://theringer.com/donald-trump-sports-radio-colin-cowherd-mike-francesa-190a7f57a543#.lvqjh6isn

Quote:
“My boss always says, ‘Talk about what sports fans are talking about,’” said Parkins, who frequently criticized Trump. “The day after the election, if you’re not talking about the election, I don’t think you’re doing your job. I don’t think you can stick to sports in this climate.” It’s a realization that nearly everyone in digital media has embraced.
A sports-radio host’s bond with the audience is based on the allure of total honesty. But revealing your politics, especially in 2016, can sever the bond. For Parkins, who supported the Missouri football protests and Black Lives Matter, liberal stumping was already part of his brand. On the air, he asked if playing the national anthem at a sporting event was such a sacred ritual, then why didn’t the presidential debates, which had audiences in the tens of millions, begin with the song?

...............

With exceptions like Murphy, Parkins, and others with a stomach for politicking, sports radio will likely return to its status as a refuge from the rest of the world.

Considering the proximity to that wonderfully miserable conservative hotbed in Kansas, that's very much a grain of salt assessment.

I've listened a bit since this announcement. He's pretty alright. You can tell he went to Syracuse, but he's not as "traditional big voice guy" in his sound as Bernfield/Rongey, etc.

Haven't heard anything political, though.

Do it the civilized way and have both shows call each other live on the air.

No. Why do you ask?

If you happen to hear that Sean Mosley is coming to WSCR run for the hills. ESPN showed him the door at the end of the year. He's Texas Murph. A Nasal voiced dork, but with a drawl!

Has Bernstein announced a "Big Announcement" today?

If not, and this guy is gonna announce it, makes me think it's not the SCORE. Otherwise they would have coordinated it and teased the big announcement at both stations at the same time. Then again, Mitch is dumb, so maybe not.

Parkins filled in for Grobber for a show or two a while ago and I was not too impressed. Overnights is of course completely different than middays, but I'm not looking forward to him.

I happened to catch his overnight show, and I thought he was pretty damn good. Thank god that Spiegs & Goff is ovah. It was a complete and utter trainwreck.
