If his worst stance is 'no weed', sorry but find another hobby for a while.

Well, the war on drugs has been one of the biggest failures of government in the history of this country on every level, so I don't know that it's as harmless a stance as you're implying.

Compared to maybe screwing 20-30 million people out of their health insurance, possible treasonous ties to foreign states, no end of potential opportunities for personal fiscal malfeasance and impropriety, not to mention seemingly zero control of what comes out of his gob at any given time, then sometimes denying he said it as little as a few minutes later?

Nah. Smoke a Lucky Strike filterless like a man.

Very Maher-esque argument.

Not really. If Trump came out and said weed is okay, Bill Maher would distribute more red hats than a St. Louis Cardinals equipment manager.

Very Dennis Miller-esque argument.

I can live with that one, cha-cha.

Was not able to see this due to work. Would this have been so off the tracks without the CNN report the day before? They seem to be back tracking and he obviously came into this planning to embarrass CNN and not take their questions.

Sorry I couldn't glean much from all of your stellar comments covering this. ABC put it all together for us.

What? Not even close. That's a legitimately terrible position to have. I would equate it to someone being against gay marriage. Speaks a lot to their character and intelligence.

Obama is about to be tossed into the dust bin of history. Trump, much like Kenny Bania before him, is the voice of a new generation.

Yeah, Trump certainly isn't a conservative. It makes one wonder why the cabinet is being filled with right-wing nutjobs. I suspect that maybe Trump himself didn't really know who to get and left it to Mike Pence, himself a right-wing nutjob.

This lends a little more validity to the report from the summer that said Trump offered the VP slot to Kasich with the understanding that he would be in charge of all policy and when Kasich's people asked Trump's people what that would leave for Donald, they replied "Making America great again!"

Way back when (early summer or whenever the debates began) I posited this would be Trump's plan should he pull off the impossible. Load up with people around him and play USCEO.

No, it doesn't. It speaks to someone who has a different view on the role of government than you do. While I disagree with the war on drugs, I understand that there are rational people out there who think our government has a duty to protect us from our own demons.

Besides, are you lacking the ability to get what you need, anyway? Of course not. Because weed is easy to get.

And am I lacking the ability to get what I need? Of course not. Because I bring my lawyer with me to the doctor's office.

Your mistake in dismissing this as a minor issue is in thinking of how it affects you and I. The war on drugs has literally ruined hundreds of thousands of lives. Probably more. That's what I'm talking about. So yes, if someone is incapable of seeing the effects the war on drugs has had then I have to question their judgment and their overall intelligence and character. It hasn't protected anyone and its destroyed countless lives over decades and its the primary reason we have the most incarcerated society in history.

That's a fair and good point, but it still pales in comparison to most issues which would summarily dismiss someone from that office. And the reality is that marijuana is becoming a states rights issue anyway. Certainly, you can name a number of issues that are far more important and which confirm/deny someone the ability/willingness to hold the office of president with a fair and reasonable viewpoint. The war on drugs is wrong, but it is far down on the list of important factors affecting this country.

I see where a singular issue should not be a reason to summarily dismiss someone. Also, it seems the mary jane matter is just wait for your state to regulate it. With what I see currently about the epidemic of pharma drugs and the heroin deaths some form of war is not only going to continue but it is intensifying.

Again, I'm not really talking about weed although that's obviously the most harmless drug. I'm talking about all the mandatory minimum sentencing laws, many of which are federal, and the impact it has in the poorest communities in terms of an increase in violence due to the black market. Shit like that. I'm not talking about making weed legal because it isn't a big deal. There are some issues that are more important, like use of our military and foreign policy, and Biden fails those tests too, but this is a major issue, not a minor one. And likely being a better President than Trump is hardly a refutation of my original point that he would be an awful president.

Jeff Sessions might have a different view than the Obama administration had.

Rick and I compromised on this awhile back. He admitted its not as bad as alcohol and I took his side against 312player that it was more harmful than water.

What was wrong the press conference?

It was fine. Refreshing to have a President-elect who can take questions from reporters without needing a teleprompter and the questions ahead of time.

Weed has never killed anybody, several people have died from too much water consumed.

Refreshing indeed. In fact it's so refreshing, I feel like naming and shaming all the traitorous doubters who spoke ill of Trump. First up: Dignified Rube:

Dignified Rube wrote:
Trump has not said one thing concretely on policy. No specific solutions for anything.

How's he going to lead if he doesn't know what he's doing?

This was hardly better than a high school pep rally.

Dignified Rube wrote:
Trump's bad mouth and bad manners are to blame for the bad blood on the convention floor, and yet the delegates and media act surprised that Cruz didn't endorse Donald Trump? You have to be kidding me. Cruz was kind after he, his wife and father were insulted by Trump without any apology. Though it was the wrong setting for this kind of speech, Cruz was reminding the delegates and the country of the history and principles of the Republican party, before he told them to vote with their conscience, which was an indictment of their hypocrisy in supporting Trump.

Dignified Rube wrote:
Republican's are in the mess, because they chose a candidate whose negatives make him unelectable in the general election, if it wasn't for the fact that the Democrat candidate is just as contemptible, but for different reasons. They should have had the courage to go with a conservative, but now they have to sleep in the bed they've made for themselves, and it's pretty ugly.
