i think goff is there because he makes bernstein seem younger and hipper by default. dan was "the young guy" paired with terry to do the same thing back in the day, but now the roles have reversed and i guess we can thank someone that at the end of the day people realized that laurence holmes isn't "hip" and/or "a fountain of youth" for bernstein; he's just an automatic yes/rubberstamp, and not in an endearing way like terry with his whole "just tryin'ta live to cash another paycheck" raison d'etre, if you will =P

I think you're right because of the similar age difference Dan mentioned during transition today (Terry vs Dan in 2000 and Dan vs Jason in 2017). Jason is a great host but he's really great with Dan on the other mic.
