That is the way it sounded. Dan made it seem like he is being paid to do the updates and be some sort of here and there third wheel in the booth. I imagine update now will turn into a 10-15 minute micro segment.

At the very least, try to prepare some comedy bits. It seems like you think of the bits as you do the updates. What ever pops into that booze soaked brain of yours you go with. That's why they're so bad.

I'm sure his salary will be the same. He was probably the highest paid producer there anyway since he's been there so long.

I'll say this, if he were to apply for updates at any radio station in the country he'd never get it. But the SCORE gives it to him cuz they feel bad for him and he's been there forever. And it's about time he graduates from producer. So Mitch throws him this bone.

yeah i know, right? we're talking about this burgeoning drinky vs shepkowski rivalry in a non-beardown thread, so where are all the media luminaries gonna go to get their 4-1-1 on the situation from "station insider" beardown? if they show up in a non-beardown thread they might have to end up reading a bunch of our worthless opinions before not necessarily 100% for-sure getting their USDA daily allowance of beardown.

Wasn't Matt the Cubs Expert for awhile, doing updates on scores from Wrigley, etc.?

Same thing with Jason: I never thought of him as a reporter, but then all of a sudden he's covering the Bulls, doing weekly hits, stories, and doing it all well.

yes on both counts. i'm pretty sure that matt/cubs-guy and goff/bulls-guy = a nice cheap/thrifty way to not have to hire another reporter (srsly, who needs one when you've got schuster and grobber always looking for a nice press pass workout?) so toss the "up-n-coming" producers a press pass and best case scenario = you get a beat reporter on the cheap and your producers/future-hosts get a teensy little bit of the kind of "beat reporter" cred that guys like terry brought to the score when they showed up on day 1.

worst case scenario? a few years later on a chi sports/talk messageboard you get someone asking "hey didn't amattacola used to be a cubs guy? didn't goff cover the bulls?" and then you can =] as you reminisce on the classics like "SOURCES TELL ME WADE/BOSH PACKAGE IMMINENT IN CHICAGO" --- hey at least he was 1/2 right 6-7 years later, eh? =P
