Seriously I have no idea why the circus is done but my guess is no one goes. I think I took my kids once when little. Outside of that I have no recollection of them mentioning wanting to go again or even any of their friends going. I don't think kids care about it anymore.

I went to the circus once when I was probably 9 or 10 and then once when I was in my early 20s. I think it is too bad that it
can't survive but I don't think kids care about it anymore like some have mentioned. They just aren't impressed with that kind
of thing anymore.

Freak shows were part of carnivals, not circuses. I'm surprised a movie guy like you didn't know that. Barbara Stanwyck snarls at Elvis in Roustabout when he confuses the carnival with a circus.

Just went to the circus in November at UC. Admittedly I felt bad for the tigers and Lions. They walk around for their show for 5 minutes then it's back in to their crates. They looked depressed. Show overall was meh, was a cheap ticket though.

True story. A friend of mine used to own a bar at Grand and Central. When the circus was at the Stadium/UC they would park the circus train not far from his bar and a lot of circus people would hang out in the bar before and after the shows. My buddy was always offering to take me to dinner on the circus pie car, which I guess is where those fuckers eat their meals. One year the feature act was a cute little girl that flew around called the Human Butterfly. My friend introduced me to her at the bar and I tried to pick her up but she was banging the Strongman.

I don't know that place. Smiler Coogan's was a popular spot for the metalheads I hung out with. My buddy's bar was called Major Tap. Every Friday at midnight during Lent he would put out a spread of Polish sausage. I kind of miss that.

My favorite Ringling Bros story:

Early 90s, I was attending UW-Madison. We lived in an apartment building next to the train tracks. The circus came to town for a week and parked their train next to our apartment. They would live on the train while in town. We had 4 hot cheerleaders living in the apartment below us, they hung out exclusively with the biggest guys on the football team. One night they returned from the bars with a couple football players and immediately saw that their place had been ransacked. The football players went to check the place out and noticed an elbow sticking out from under the bed. They yanked the elbow out and found it attached to a naked guy holding a knife. Turns out he was wanted in Florida for raping a 13 year old girl and stabbing her over 50x. He had gone and joined the circus, I guess that was actually a real thing.

Post script: America's Most Wanted filmed for a week outside our apartment. They even interviewed Barry Alvarez about the players who caught the perv. When they aired it you could see my foot on our balcony (we had filming keg parties every night they were there)
