Trump ran against Cruz, Huckabee, Carson, and Bush, amongst others. They all seemingly have better religious credentials than Trump. This is why I'm wondering if religiousity matters in the Republican party anymore.

A primary is different than a general election. Most of the Republicans did not take Donald Trump seriously. The immigration issue launched him to the top. Trump was able to bring in a lot of people to vote in the primary who were not traditional Republicans.

Where Trump won in the general election was the turnout of the vote. He was flying around the country doing rallies with thousands of people. A candidate can't draw crowds like that without drawing in voters.

Hillary Clinton thought she was going to wipe the floor with Trump because he was not a traditional candidate. But she took for granted the states which were previously considered to be blue states. Had Obama not messed up America Trump would never have been elected.

If the only thing Trump does is add a conservative judge to the Supreme Court then for a lot of people that is enough to justify the vote. However, he has plans to do all sorts of things that would benefit the country including a border wall.

The ability for MANY (not all) religious folk to pick and choose what they actually live by is always amazing.

We had two immoral people running for president... So what would Jesus do?

According to Drake, I guess he'd vote for the pathological liar, philanderer, fear-mongerer, adulterer who worships false Gods (himself), pisses on the poor (literally and figuratively), insults his rivals through ad hominem attacks, mocks handicapped people, mocks women and their menstrual cycles, makes a killing off racist dog whistles, and fakes being the least bit religious to get a vote...

I'm about 99% sure there's absolutely nothing for LGBT people to worry about when it comes to that. They aren't going to make gay marriage illegal again. But like you were saying above, people are dumb and will believe what they read, so they probably think he's going to try to take away gay marriage even though he's already said multiple times he's fine with it, a stance Obama refused to take just five years ago.

Articles are coming out on this. Crazy to think that a country fighting over its religious identity for like 600 years (King Henry VIII right?) is becoming non religious.
