Sounds like a crazy overreaction to me.

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- A school system employee in Maryland who had a lighthearted quarrel with a student on Twitter over the student's spelling has been fired.

Katie Nash tells The Frederick News-Post that she was fired on Friday afternoon from her $44,000-a-year job. A Frederick County Public Schools spokesman confirmed that Nash had been let go, without providing details.

Nash ran the school district's Twitter account. On Jan. 5, a student tweeted to the account, asking that schools be closed "tammarow."

Nash responded from the district's account, "But then how would you learn how to spell `tomorrow?"'

She says she was told not to tweet anymore after the interaction.

Nash says she understands why she was let go and that she didn't "want to be a distraction to the school system."

If there is any possibility you can lose your job for what you say on social media , you should not be on social media

Surely there has to be more to that story...

If that is all there is then that is absolutely ridiculous.

It sounds like running the Twitter account actually was part of her job.

I know but participation trophy culture has such a loud voice that they can turn anything into an affront and make people pay for even the most innocuous stuff. It's fucking crazy.

Still waiting for the plague to help purge the stupidity this nation is in lust with.

Now answer me this, internet chums ... when one "tweets", whatever that entails, is there an autocorrect function like in Word or Chrome? Would the phone itself provide that service?

Wondered the same thing as well. But I am an asshole who found her tweet funny, so what do I know?

The trend right now is to be witty and meme-savvy with your company Twitter accounts. I think this was her attempt.

I thought it was humorous. As long as the kid isn't 10 or younger...all in good fun.

And by federal law, the owner of the Twitter account has to be at least 13 years old (COPPA.) If the parent knowingly let a 7 year old have a Twitter account, then maybe we should start with the parent and not with the teacher.

This is absurd. Last I checked it was teachers job to correct spelling and grammar. Probably more to this story.
