Former Chicago police Superintendent Garry McCarthy has been subpoenaed by lawyers handling former U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr.'s divorce from former Ald. Sandi Jackson.

Court papers filed late Tuesday demand that McCarthy turn over any emails, text messages, phone records or social media exchanges he had with Sandi Jackson, as well as details of any financial relationship they might have had.

Two other men — Chicago cop James Love and McCarthy business partner Richard Simon — are also targeted in identical subpoenas.

Jesse Jackson Jr.'s lawyer, Brendan Hammer, last month alleged that Sandi Jackson committed "acts" in Illinois that led her husband to file for divorce but declined to say what those acts were, mysteriously commenting only that the acts "could be from the benign, to the sublime, to the malign."

Neither McCarthy nor Love nor Sandi Jackson's attorney immediately responded to requests for comment, while Simon said in an emailed statement that he was "shocked that I am included in this fishing expedition." But the development is likely to raise eyebrows and increase attention on a case that was already high-profile.

The increasingly bitter divorce comes after the Jacksons' dramatic fall from power. Both served prison time after they were convicted of a scheme in which Jackson Jr. violated federal campaign law by using campaign funds to make personal purchases, including a fedora that once belonged to Michael Jackson and cashmere capes.

Jackson Jr. filed for divorce in Chicago last year while his wife was still in prison. She later filed her own divorce case in Washington, D.C., where she is living with the couple's two children.

Whether the case is fought in Chicago or the nation's capital may turn on whether Hammer can prove Sandi Jackson committed acts in Illinois that led to the divorce.

Tuesday's subpoenas demand that McCarthy and the other men turn over any gifts that they have given Sandi Jackson, or that she has given them, as well as any "cards, letters, notes etc." The subpoenas also demand the men hand over copies of any "films, videos ... photos ... that you received from Sandi, that you sent to Sandi, and/or that reflect you and Sandi together," as well as records related to any trips or outings they took together.

It further demands copies of checks "given, sold, exchanged, traded or bartered to Sandi or for her benefit" as well as details about whether any of the men paid for her attorney fees, groceries, rent, mortgage, repairs to her home or her clothing.

In divorce case, Jesse Jackson Jr.'s lawyer alleges mysterious 'acts' by Sandi Jackson
The subpoena sent to McCarthy demands documents dating to May 2012, about a year into McCarthy's reign as police superintendent and a month before Jackson Jr., who has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, took a leave of absence from Congress. It covers the entire period that both Jackson Jr. and his wife spent in federal prison.

McCarthy was fired by Mayor Rahm Emanuel in December 2015 in the wake of the release of the video of a Chicago police officer shooting Laquan McDonald, but McCarthy has remained in the public spotlight, taking shots at Emanuel in the national media over his handling of the city's rise in homicides. He has worked with Simon at United Service Co. since his firing.

Simon's subpoena demands records dating to January 2015, while Love's demands records dating to January 2012.

In his emailed statement, Simon said he had met Sandi Jackson only two or three times in the past decade, in the company of her husband at busy social functions.

He wrote that he had never emailed with or had any other communication with Sandi Jackson, nor bought her gifts, adding: "I can say with complete certainty I have no knowledge of any issues surrounding the case in court regarding the Jacksons ... and I hope they consider what they do now adversely affects other people ... and especially their family."

The Chicago case is due back before Judge Carole K. Bellows on March 8.

Let's just say that Sandi Jackson was the type who was always looking out for herself and her future. Let's also say that her husband may not have had a sufficient amount of interest in the things she had to offer.

I didn't realize what was at 35th. I was going to ask, "at the BP...?" but after looking it up I get it now and see the BP is at 31st
