I don't know if many of you have heard it, but CHICAGO GUY Danny Parkins has picked up a bit of a vocal fry. It may not come through on the AM feed, but if you listen to the stream, in virtually every segment, he'll drop his register and you'll hear that creaking and groaning that has become all-too typical in modern times.

It is my general assessment that Parkins has a voice and delivery technique that he might very well age into, but as of right now his sound is way too Syracusean and nasally. It's also possible that his current fry is where he will develop rich, breathier texture to his lower tones a la Morgan Freeman or Mike Rowe, but again, in its current state, it sounds like SNL's Californians has been turned into a radio host.

there's a dude I work next to that has it real bad. I did not know men could even do it. SOOOOO annoying. like nails on a chalkboard.

This is almost exactly how Parkins sounds when he busts out of the fryilator.

Vocal fry was very common among the computer programmers I worked with a my first job. It was a weird company culture thing, that seemed to be almost a sign of deference in employees with mild social anxiety. I found myself picking it up unconsciously, and thinking, "what the heck am I doing? Why are we all doing this?"

Another reason to not listen to Parkins.

He definitely has the Mancow phony announcer voice going.

Nowhere near as annoying or untalented as manqueer, in my short time listening I'm sold on him as a big improvement over Goff and Spiegal..probably the best host on 670.
