Gutting healthcare disproportionately affects women.
Why is that?

Now if Trump really wanted to be a dick,he could put her on the no fly list and pull her passport. They do it for less to others on the list.
If you read some of the stories of people the FBI/Homeland has pulled in over threats hers is ib the ball park ,

This could possibly jamb her up big time? Doesn't she live full time in London? Is she even still a US Citizen? This could get interesting...

I think the march was great. It allowed a whole lot of men to enjoy some peace and quiet for a day.

In MANY ways they do. White men rule the country and the world.

Most of the people who rule the country and the world don't care about 99% of white men either.

You're absolutely right about that.

I don't see why you have a problem with the march though. It was mostly peaceful and they clearly articulated the changes they would like. In the past you knocked protests because the protesters weren't making any demands. You thought it was pointless to protest without having a particular cause. I don't really agree but I don't have an issue with that stance. The problem is that now you're complaining about people marching even though they're very clear about their demands and you generally agree with them. It looks like you just have a problem with protesting.

We're all flawed. Clearly she was an awful campaigner and MANY other things. Reality is we elected a guy who was everything MANY people thought Hillary was and worse. That man has far less experience than her too. In 2008 and 2016 we elected 2 guys with far less experience than a woman. One of those men could be the devil and the other is Obama.

This amuses and occasionally disturbs me about MANY around here. It leads to me generally dismissing their bleatings against protests as a defense of privilege.

I don't really think that is a fair characterization. My post was about the social media grandstanding done by people who sat at home and posted on their phones. It was way over the top.

The actual protesters who had specific complaints were fine. I think some of them are overblown or even offensive(all women should be pro-choice and that is from someone who is pro-choice) but you are correct that at least they made it clear what they were protesting about.

Yep and wasn't it but a few months ago that this same group was proclaiming the gloriousness of the "protest vote"?

She was a Senator for one-term and part of another. So I don't think she was far more experienced that Obama. Also, it's a bit much to say that the flaws of Hillary Clinton as a candidate have anything to do with the condition of women in the country.

A protest vote is significantly better than facebook grandstanding.

There are various ways to protest. As far as Facebook grandstanding goes never forget that we are now in the age of the tweeting President.

i'm not sure about the "clear" priorities of the march. it seemed to be sign wise, that the purpsoe of 1 person being there to the next was something different. overarching is anger about trump being elected i guess but for many different reasons.

a coordinated protest vote has more impact than 1,000 marches

A protest vote should be the end game of a protest.

yeah, i think history will look on it pleasantly however, it will also have a tinge of "maybe you should of voted" in the first place.

I would think they voted. It's not like it matters in most of the places they had the marches either. They need to be trying to reach people like me but they don't because I'm not the right kind and I think that's some of their problem.

I do not think they clearly articulated anything. I have no idea what their goal was.

I think it was just a "We hate Trump" march because he's a racist and sexist piece of garbage. Which is fine. There were plenty of men there. Why they felt the need to call it a "Women's March" didn't make much sense.

It was an amalgam of various people interested in displaying their displeasure with our President. MANY people there may not have the ability to vote. If they live in Illinois it doesn't matter anyway.

When you say "right kind", do you mean open-minded, curious, socially aware and actually believe that there are women issues?

As is usual with these kinds of initiatives the message was sort of all over the place with different people/groups trying to co-opt the march for their own purposes. Broadly speaking this was certainly a middle finger to Trump for many reasons, chief among them, and this is why it was framed as a "women's march," though of course it wasn't representative of all women, was what a lot of women feel was Trump's misogyny. The women who feel that way are appalled that someone with Trump's record of public comments on women has made it to the oval office, whereas someone with the same record would have been fired from your average job if tidbits of that record were made public as they have been with Trump.

It's been often said that women should ignore harassment because it is what it is or whatever (this is what Donald Trump Jr said once the Access Hollywood tape was released, more or less) and boys will be boys, but the response to that on Saturday was "go fuck yourself." Whether or not that kind of message is of practical use is not certain, but it was sort of a cathartic thing for people who think that way. And the reason I say it was a middle finger to Trump is because of its location, its timing, and its composition (women).
