Who do you want to throw the innings? Shields is going to be on the team and will probably be their second best starter.

Wouldn't ya rather have AA and AAA guys eat innings over a known ( garbage) bum like Shields?

The Shields trade was a fire able offense IMO

I don't think you have enough guys to cover the innings. You'll end up killing the bullpen. Shields was a move for last season that didn't work out. He can be useful now.

Yea Shields is useful at least. If him and Derek Holland combine for 300 IP (or manage to get traded for useful things) it'll be a pretty rousing "success".

The lack of movement though is very troubling.

Cabrera will be here at least until the trading deadline. Frazier's marketability period just opened after the signing of Trumbo, but I think he will be here as well.

There's absolutely no reason for any of them to be in this team after they trade their best pitcher and best position player. Trumbo is a DH and had nothing to do with Frazier. His marketability period opened a month ago when Justin Turner resigned with the Dodgers.

Useful how? Any buster can go out there and eat innings and give ya a 5 plus era.

That's actually not all the way true. Only 82 pitchers threw 150 or more innings (Shields was probably the worst lol), just a little more than half the 150 rotation spots there are in the league.

Anyone under the age of 27 whose not half dead would be abbetter option than Shields. Chris Beck, Carson Fulmer, Jordan Guerrero, Dylan Covey etc. I don't care who it is as long as it's not him. Shields would be the most depressing Sox pitcher since Jaimie Navarro.

Sure, if the aim is to get the top overall pick, Shields should start every 5th day for sure.

That should be the goal, but Jerry probably thinks the 2% shot at going to the playoffs is worth it. They won't make any big trades until atleast the all star break.

Not one of those guys is capable of having a better year than Shields. I remember when you lamented losing the great Erik Johnson too. The truth is, the young guy is rarely better than the established guy.

Erik Johnson had several chances to succeed with the White Sox. He never took that next step.

You're a funny guy, Keyser. You want the Sox to get younger in some ways, but then went them to go out and sign Cutris Granderson. Rick Hahn sucks, but Kenny Williams is awesome. I don't get it, but to each their own.

Yeah, I don't really give a shit if Shields is on the team or not, but you're paying him and I'm sure he's going to be better than he was last year and if I'm going to the games I'd much rather watch Shields give me six innings of three run baseball than see Beck or Covey get their brains beaten in immediately.

I might buy a 14 game package this week if the ticket guy is willing to throw in a Harrelson alarm clock. The funniest thing is the ad has a note that buyers of this package are not eligible for playoff tickets.

That seems strange. A guy who purchases a 14 game package should definitely have the chance to buy at least one playoff game per series. a 7 game package, maybe not so much. I'm about 95% sure the Sox aren't going to the playoffs this year so its probably moot, but that is a weird thing to specify.

Also, especially for guys like you JOrr and in a season like the one that is likely upcoming, the Sox should offer a $10 SRO ticket for almost every game. That gets you in to the park and you can stand around the outfield concourse. Just have ushers checking tickets behind the RF and LF foul poles.

I just thought the idea that they might make the playoffs was absurd. But I guess stranger things have happened.

If they offered a $10 SRO ticket I'd buy the whole season.

Buy the $7 upper deck ticket and on most nights you can walk around the concourse. They should let college age people in for free on weekday nights. They will drink way more than their ticket price anyway. And maybe some of them will become fans.

I thought about buying those upper deck seats last year and just going down to my regular spot because I heard they weren't guarding the lower deck anymore. But sometimes they were. It wasn't worth the aggravation and saving a few bucks to get in there and not be able to get downstairs.

I would go by the entrance by the Bullpen Sports Bar. They never checked there the entire season. I would usually eat there before the games because the food was fresher. Also better beer selection than Miller Lite in the stands. I am guessing that the only games where they check there are Cubs and opening day. That policy certainly seems dated anyway.

Yeah I think if they have 25,000+ they guard the lower deck. I went to four games last year, and the only one they were checking tickets at the 100 level was Opening Day. I ended up downstairs in the RF corner after the 6th inning anyway after John Danks sucked.

I wish the Sox would have floated Lawrie out there to the Dodgers when they were looking for a second basemen. Fordyce was better last year but over his career he isn't much better and he is much older and more expensive.

nobody wants Lawrie --- the Sox "intelligentsia" --what an oxyMORON-- figured he'd be non-tendered along with Avi Garcia.

I do not believe that the rebuild was just the public explanation for wanting to get rid of Sale and Eaton but I do hope fans ask Hahn this weekend about the appearance the moves and lack of moves have created.

I would be okay with that if they were trying to win next season. Their roster looks like they're trying to get the 7th pick in the draft instead of the 1st.

Still have 6 weeks to trade Quintana, Frazier and other lesser players before spring training. But yes, as currently constituted, it looks like they have only half committed to a rebuild and there is no point in hanging onto guys who might help win a few more games, but will prevent young players from getting opportunity at the big league level, result in a less desirable pick in the draft, and still leave the team out of contention, while not getting more young players in trades that might have helped a great deal in the future.

They have to know the price of poker at this point so I would expect they are a serious bidder.

Unbelievable to me how chickenshit the Pirates are.

Now that the Rangers are in, I expect this to be done in a few days.

Astros might have to up their offer now.
