It is too, and the book is even better; along with the Rabbit tetralogy it's one of the few novels written in present tense that doesn't read like NaNoWriMo bilge.

The movie was depressing drivel that I'm certain influenced the cadre of emo millennials who watched it in high school and thought they identified with Timothy Hutton's character, even though they didn't grow up in an affluent suburb, nor did they ever consider going sailing.

After reading the Rabbit series all I came away with was that Harry Angstrom was a douche pretty much . So was his kid.

Well, in terms of movies that came out in 1980, this millennial identifies much more with Robert Hays in Airplane! than with Timothy Hutton in Ordinary People.

I don't take you for one of the cadre of whiny emo millennials that I'm talking about.

i would be willing to bet most millennials have never even heard of "Ordinary People", and judging how few can think on their own, simply discard it as "overrated" if they have--like they do "Rocky" and other Best Picture movies.

I agree with CH, the novel's even better; but the movie is quite moving. It's really about opening up about grief. Moore's character perfectly represents the hostility and suppression of a stiff upper middle class white person.
