Prime Pedro Martinez is also the most dominant pitcher I've ever seen in my life.

Would the White Sox have won the World Series in 1994?

Start some random arguments or debates. I'll start some. Feel free to ignore these and just come up with better. Maybe keep it a rolling thread as a decent distraction.

Anyone over the age of of 45 that likes the NBA here and also doesn't have irrational disdain for modern players, I want to know: who was better - Alex English or Carmelo Anthony? Why?

They're not exactly the same type of player, but I would say those two guys are a good comp for each other.

FavreFan wrote:
whats the greatest career cut short by injury? Again I have NBA on the mind but Bill Walton absolutely has to be on the short list.

I think Maurice Stokes would be the poster boy for that award. I realize he is hated by MANY, but I might make the case for Rose. Also, Bernard King made the HoF anyway, but he would have a much greater body of work without the injuries.

FavreFan wrote:
If Tom Brady retires four years from now with 6 rings and 9 SB appearances is he the greatest athlete in modern history, surpassing, quite naturally, MJ?

I wouldn't compare athletes across sports like that, but regardless of the outcome Sunday, I'd say he's the greatest QB ever.

Fat Lever or Rondo?

Not even a question. Lever was better at every aspect of the game. Another guy who was plagued by injury.

The NBA would be improved if the games were refereed like they are in college.

I wanted lots more of Bo Jackson. Not saying his injury was the worst, but it really sucked.

Young Favre Fan,

Have you ever heard of Rickey Henderson?

Especially in the playoffs over Barry.

Sincerely,

Old man yelling at the clouds

PS While I agree wholeheartedly about Jerry Rice, it's not even a question about Lafayette Lever over Rondo

The Indians would have gotten the Sox as well. Sleepy Gene never saw an adjustment he liked

The pitching staff was running on fumes, too...McDowell was never the same after 93. Fernandez and Alavarez were average. Bere was meh...and 5th starter Scott Sanderson was awful.

I still wish Bere and Alvarez started games 1 & 2 of the ALCS in '93. McDowell was done in September

His elbow was toast. I don't know if their starting would have made a difference, though. What I remember best of that series was Cito Gaston not letting anyone pitch to Thomas, and no one behind him could do anything. Frank had no real protection in that lineup.

Nobody in the Sox lineup was able to touch Dave Stewart.

Yeah, but I still think they would have had problems. Toronto just pitched around Frank for the most part. Every time he and/or Raines would get on it seemed like Karkovice or Bo just struck out. And that Jays lineup was tough. It was hard to go through it without damage.

That whole Astros rotation was fun to watch.

Too bad management didn't believe JR when he complained about something being wrong with him. Ultimate power pitcher

If Michael Kopech was on the North side Cub fans would be comparing him to J.R. Richard. I'm comparing him to Andy Sisco.

Probably not. Anytime you get into the discussion of "greatest ever," everyone on the list had a lot of luck and timing that helped them. If the universe reset and played itself out again, Jordan might have been a bus boy, and that is true for every athlete.

Quite naturally, the luck I enjoyed was busting my ass to destroy the life of Leroy Smith. Do you know why people know who Leroy Smith is to some degree?

It is because I certainly ruined his life and enjoyed the process.

I'll bet he didn't like that timing.

Yeah, I agree with that. But the odds of him being the consensus best basketball player ever are slim.

Olden Polynice would be in the basketball hall of fame if he got to play with Jordan for over a decade.
