(CNNN)President Donald Trump has chosen his beloved thoroughbred Incitatus to serve as secretary of agriculture, the president announced Monday night via Twitter, setting up a heated confirmation battle and signaling a desire to bring in mammals not previously considered eligible for cabinet positions. Like Trump, Incitatus, 18, has no formal domestic policy experience, but has built close relationships with the grain industry by eating their product from a trough on a regular basis and appearing in a promotional capacity by allowing his face to be used on their burlap sacks.
"His majesty, broad grazing experience and deep understanding of the barnyard make him an excellent choice for Secretary of Agriculture," Trump said in the tweet.
Trump went on to say, "One thing we've learned, he has by far the highest IQ of any Equus ferus caballus to ever be elevated to the Cabinet."
Incitatus was originally a dark horse for the secretary of agriculture nomination, but emerged from a lengthy public interview and vetting process that included better-known quantities like former Texas A&M President Elsa Murano, who served as USDA’s food safety chief during President George W. Bush’s first term and is Cuban-American, and former Texas Agriculture Commissioner Susan Combs.
The president concluded by saying, "The confirmation is going to go great. I think he'll pass. I think every nomination will — they’re all at the highest level.”
